Description After numerous requests, I have decided to make a tutorial on how I paint my Nebulae. I did my best to include every part of my process. I'm sure the thing is riddled with spelling and grammar errors. Just ignore those, there's a reason I'm an artist and not a writer.

I hope you all can learn something from this. It took quite sometime to get it done. If you have any questions or are unsure about anything, don't hestiate to ask me.

I've included my custom cloud smudge brush that I use in all my paintings

Thanks for posting your tutorial. It's always interesting to have a look at another artist's process, especially when their process is different from your own. You gave me a couple interesting things to think about, and some nice scenes to look at. Oh, and including the custom brush in the DL package was sweet of you.

Thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TylerCreatesWorlds In reply to SpookyChick1013 [2013-04-28 19:26:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. Well the brush is a huge part of the process, it didn't seem right not to include it.

SpookyChick1013 In reply to TylerCreatesWorlds [2013-04-28 20:27:54 +0000 UTC]

Awesome. Tools are SO integral to process, and yet, most digital artists neglect this.

Also, you're quite welcome.

WhiteLilyDragon In reply to ??? [2013-04-28 17:36:57 +0000 UTC]

Finally, somebody made a tutorial on how to create nebulae from scratch! I've grown so sick of finding tutorials that limit the imagination to morphing photographs of existing cloud patterns in the sky, so you really had me sold through the whole tutorial! Thanks for posting this, it's exactly what I wanted to know how to do. ^o^ I can't wait to start painting my own nebulae now!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TylerCreatesWorlds In reply to WhiteLilyDragon [2013-04-28 19:26:48 +0000 UTC]

It's only good if its made from scratch.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WhiteLilyDragon In reply to TylerCreatesWorlds [2013-04-29 18:25:50 +0000 UTC]

Amen to that. ^o^ Photo-manipulation limits us to pre-existing photos of clouds, and I've never been a fan of using the noise filter for creating star patterns either. I don't like taking the quick route with space backgrounds, so I enjoy painting everything from scratch with all of my drawings. ^^

That's interesting I often proceed with my nebulae in a similar way but I didn't expect to see this technique from you. Your works are very coherent and the layers are blended very well. Anyway, while it's great of you to share your secrets I really hope people will add their own twist to your technique.

You could probably use up to Figure 9 to in some other ways to create some nice looking clouds in certain scenes.
