Description
Based of a what-if question that popped into my mind. What if the US never finished the atomic bomb, and ended up fighting on the Japanese Home Islands? What if the Soviets invaded Hokkaido? What would the world be like?-----
After a long drown out civil war, a communist government took control of Venezuela in 1967. Since 1970, a US back guerrilla war has gripped the country. In 1970, the economy of Brazil collapsed. The collapse allowed a communist fringe party named the People's Socialist Revolutionary Party to gain control of most of the states. After the 1974 Brazilian legislative election, the People's Socialist Revolutionary Party won a majority in the Congress but lost the presidential election. The president and the Supreme Federal Court fearing a complete communist takeover of the nation, disbanded the National Congress. After weeks of civil unrest and riots, the military, led by Marshal Alejandro JuΓ‘rez, overthrow the government and established a communist government under the rule of the People's Socialist Revolutionary Party. JuΓ‘rez chose to rename himself Rojo Fuego and was named the party's general secretary. With the support of Brazil, a communist revolution took control of Argentina in 1976. Since than, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Suriname, Peru, and Columbia have seen increased communist guerrilla activity. In 1982, a dispute over the Falkland Islands between Argentina and Britain almost went nuclear. As Argentina was a Soviet ally, and Britain a member of NATO, the war in the Falklands was seen as a danger to both sides. The Soviets backed out as they were more focused on their war in Afghanistan and funding Brazil. In June, the Soviets mediated a ceasefire and a peace treaty in August.

Why not let Argentina keep the Falklands in this timeline?

Do you think the US and Britain would allow a communist nation to annex lands under British control?

Yeah there is that. The US and Britain would likely be committed to the liberation of the Falklands though I would imagine the US taking a backseat in order to avoid the Soviets countering by sending their own forces.

What levels of repression to the South American communist countries have? For some reason, I see a communist Brazil having the worst of it.

Yes, Brazil had the worst of it as the military and the party were closely tied. Venezuela was the second most repressive as it is fighting a civil war between the communist government and US backed guerrillas. Argentina was the least repressive and was the only one of the communist South American states that embraced reform and dissolved the communist party in 1998.

IMO, it would way cooler if you didvide Brazil in two: The South Commie and the North Capitalist...in real life Brazil got divided by a cvivil war.

Won't the recent discovery of oil in the Falklands cause another conflict?

Most likely, especially with the 1979 oil embargo on the US in this world

Maybe the UK Prime Minister could be somewhat of a warmonger in this timeline. He could make a statement that Argentina knew all along that oil was in the Falklands and even outright accuse them of extracting oil secretly during the Argentine occupation of the Falklands in '82; he may demand extra war reparations from Argentina matching the cost of the most amount of oil they could have extracted during that time.
