It's a US ally. The US intervened during the 1979 Revolution to keep the Shah in power. What happened later was a brutal crackdown to prevent another rebellion. It's a valuable strategic ally to NATO and the US due to its location near the Soviet Union and on the Persian Gulf.

The Mali War in the 1960's, the Cuban Missile Crises, the Falklands War, the 1956 Sino-Tibetan War, the 1951 Inter-German War, and a few others TBA.

Ah yeah. What about the Iran-Iraq War? Was that prevented in this TL? I noticed Iraq is grey.
