Description Based of a what-if question that popped into my mind. What if the US never finished the atomic bomb, and ended up fighting on the Japanese Home Islands? What if the Soviets invaded Hokkaido? What sort of weapons would be used in this final battle?
Introduced in 1945 to defend the last remnants of the Third Reich, the StG. 45, the Alpenfestung. Using the 7.92x33mm Kurz round used in the StG. 44. It has managed to become a devastating weapon against the invading Allies, and has become a nuisance to occupation troops who constantly face attacks by the Werwolf units.
After the war, the StG. 45 was used by the West German border guards and the East German Volkspolizei. West Germany defaced most of the Nazi marking and sent thousands to Israel to help build its military.

Sorry if the flag is offensive.

I think I got the idea for this from a Wolfenstein fan art pic of a Wehrmacht stormtrooper

Last I checked, StG45 never used a piston.

Or an Avtomat receiver.

still, it does look like a fiction, and the flag is really nice.

So...basically the Russians stole the design? Well...not actually stolen, legally appropriated?

They denied that they took the design

Actually there is absolutely connection between Stg.44 and AK-47
1)Kalashnikov used M1 Garand inspired gas system on his earlier guns and THAT's the system that after many modifications and improvements was used by him in his AK-46 and AK-47.
2)Intermediate rounds were introduced back in WWI days. And developement project that would result in creation of 7.62x39 round as well as competition for a rifle that would use it were started back in 1942(!) after USA send a few M1 Carbines(though their 7.62x33 round is a bigger cousin of revolver rounds) and their analysis. Not to mention that whole programm was overlooked by Fyodorov himself. Yes, THAT Fyodorov. Creator of Fyodorov Avtomat. He was the main consultant.
Moreover you can find schematics of both and videos where of disassembly online nowadays if you invest no more then 5 minutes.
Meanwhile Gewehr 43 is openly stated to copy SVT-40 system hence it not being a failure like it's G41 predecessor

I know. It just looks virtually similar to the Soviet AK.

The Soviets based the design of the AK-47 on the German StG.44

I see. Though I am sure the Soviets took all credit for the design...which really is their right since that could be considered just another war reparation.

In fact, the Nazis got a plan for the StG.45, based on the StG.44, but less expensive. Was never built because the war was lost.
But I like it

Is this based of this? [link] or a personal design?

tylero79 In reply to radar651 [2012-04-12 20:04:15 +0000 UTC]

Both yes and no. I mainly based it off the StG.44, but gave it the StG. 45 designation, though I did combine a few features of the real StG 45 into this weapon
