Description The Yano Empire was a rather large, but militarily weak, impoverished, and largely corrupt. Bordering the Chozoan, Chanvy, Kivan, and Nimo Empires, along with the small Lotian Kingdom and the Great Frontier (at the time a massive, largely unexplored and highly contested region of space). Kiva and Chozoa both wanted a friendly state on their frontiers and to open up markets for their industries. The political situation, while tense, allowed the Yano Empire to stay afloat for centuries as each state poured in cash and supplies to gain influence. During this time the Source Trade Routes (a series of trade routes that use to travel through the turbulent region of space know only as "The Source" between the nations of the universe with the remote, yet prosperous, Tri Empire) expanded eastward bring new riches and technology forth. With the Tri Empire and Chozoa being politically close, the majority of the trade routes led through Chozoan territory. The trade routes began to flow through Yano territory and Kiva. When the Kivan Empire began expanding, it was caught in an expense and brutal war with the Nifkan Empire. By the time a ceasefire was reached Kiva fond itself bankrupt and desperate for cash. It soon turned its eyes towards Yano and invaded. Chozoan saw this as a danger and intervened, soon followed by Chanvy, and the Chozoan protectorate the Roslev States. Yano quickly turned into a quagmire as movements were slowed by stubborn resistance by both sides and frequent supply problems. After lasting more than eighty years, the Chozoan Empire and its allies were able to drive the Kivans out, but at a heavy cost.
-----
Introduced in 11,005 CFE (Chozoan Foundation Era), the 10.8/6 NJ 7 Shot, Straight Bolt Service Rifle, Model 9, Year 11,005 CFA, or just the Service Rifle, was the standard rifle of the Imperial Chozoan Auxiliary Legions (the de facto army of the Empire) in the Wastes, the Border Areas, the Southern Kingdoms, the Southern Reaches, and the East Provence of Chozoa Proper. The Service Rifle was also popular amongst the barbarians of the various states and empires along the southern borders of the Chozoan Empire. Introduced in 11,005 CFA during the Era of Peace of Prosperity, the Service Rifle was needed to issue the gunmen brigades of the Auxiliary Legions (made up of volunteers and conscripts form the various planets and galaxies populated by those not of Chozoan Homo Sapien blood, such as humans of other tribes, nations, clans, and species, and non-human humanoids) to stabilize the lawless areas in the Imperial South and East. Using the 10.8/6 NJ Year 10873 CFA round (novojwan, a unit of measurement, a novojwan is 1.2 centimeters), the round is rather weak. The rifle makes up for its under-powered round by being highly accurate and its straight pull-back bolt action allows for a decent rate of fire and the Auxiliary Legionaries are usually highly trained and determined. While designed to hold seven-rounds when fully loaded, experienced veterans learned how to load an extra round into the rifle. Experienced veterans also learned that due to a design flaw, the weapon could be fired much quicker by tying a string to the trigger and slamming the bolt back (called slamfire). This allowed for an increase of the amount of rounds fired down range, but accuracy suffered. Many took to having a string tied around some-part of the rifle so it could be used later in battle. The Imperial Military chose a low powered round because it prefers melee weapons and traditional bows and mechbow. The Imperial Military also feared that the Auxiliary Legions would rebel against the Empire and be too loyal to the autonomous kingdoms of that make up the Southern Kingdoms region. They didn't want to hand arms that could easily piece the armor of the Imperial Legionnaires in the event of a rebellion. The rifle was mainly unmodified until the Era of Peace and Prosperity ended in 57,328 CFA when the Chozoan Empire began to crumble as kingdoms rebelled and the barbarians invaded the Empire and the gate system collapsed.

The 10.8/6 NJ 14 Shot, Semi-Automatic Self-Loading Rifle, Model 12, Year 11,538 CFE was adopted to supplement the Auxiliary Legionaries Demolition Squads, well known for being primarily filled with psychopathic pyromaniacs and murders from the worst prisons and penal colonies from across the Chozoan Empire tasked with carrying large amounts of explosives and incendiary devices to bring down fortifications and clear trenches. The weapon was commonly just called Semi-Rifle. The Semi-Rifle was also popular among squad leaders and cavalry soldiers. While originally designed to be only semi-automatic, the Semi-Rifle was quickly modified by soldiers on the front lines of the Yano War to be fully automatic. Designed to use the standard 10.8/6 NJ round of the Service Rifle, the Semi-Rifle was fed by two standard seven-round stripper clips inserted into the deep mag-well. Eventually some veterans discovered how to remove the mag-well and began using them as improvised magazines. Soon after the Yano War began that Chozoans began manufacturing these improvised mags and 56-round drum mags, mainly for special operations. Lower grade copies were manufactured in the Yano Empire and chambered to use the local 2.805/16.5 Oraku (8.5x50mm) round and were extremely popular among squad leaders.

The 10.8/6 NJ 7 Shot, Legionary, Pump-Action Rifle, Model 2, Year 9,980 CFE, was the standard issued firearm to the predominately melee-oriented Imperial Chozoan Legions, the elite fighting force of the Chozoan Empire. While using the same round as the Service Rifle, the Legionary issued rounds were of much higher quality and benefited by the use of advanced rounds created after several wars with the high-tech Vu race on the Empire's eastern borders. While designed for the Legions, a few lower quality variants were issued to the Auxiliary Legions. during the Yano War, the Legions were present during some of the most intense battles, such as the Liberation of Yano-Core (capital and core world of the Yano Empire. The Legionary Rifle was highly useful in clearing rooms and trenches. The rounds used in the Legionary Rifle, while the same calibre as that used in the Service Rifle, were filled with a special mix of powder that greatly increased stopping power. These rounds were extremely dangerous to use in most Auxiliary Legionaries weapons as they were not made to handle these specialized rounds (though specially built Service Rifles used for sniping roles were safe).

The .4/2.3 NJ 100 Shot, Naval, Rapshooter, Year 11,946 CFE, was created for fighting in the cramped corridors of naval vessels. A rapshooter is the Chozoan term for submachine gun designed weapons. Using the extremely small .4/2.3 NJ round, the Rapshooter uses a 100 round, casket mag. After years of service in the Imperial Chozoan Navy, the Rapshooter was eventually accepted into the ranks of a few units of the Auxiliary Legions, though many disliked its low stopping power.

The 11.7/3.36 NJ, 8 Shot, Self-Loading Service Pistol, Model 20, Year 12,397 CFE was the standard issue pistol of the Imperial Chozoan Auxiliary Legions. A cheap and simple weapon, just like the Semi-Rifle was found to be easy to convert into a fully-automatic weapon. The high power of the 11.7/3.36 NJ (9.75x28mm) round was well received by soldiers on the field. During the Yano War, many soldiers modified their pistols into submachine-guns by increasing the length of the barrel and adding a metal folding stock. By the mid-years of the Yano War, 14 round mags were built to be used for the SMG conversion.

The 11.7/3.36 NJ, 75 Shot, Naval, Rapshooter, Year 12,582 CFE, was created as a replacement for the earlier .4/2.3 NJ Rapshooter. Using the more powerful round from the Service Pistol, the weapon features a hollow 75 round helical drum mag. The magazine is loaded by sliding it forward through the rings with the barrel fitting through the hollow center of the mag. The magazine essentially raps around the barrel. The top barrel is were the rounds are fired out; the lower barrel is used to eject spent casings forward to allow for ambidextrous usage. Its compact size and large magazine were popular with the Auxiliaries who used it with great proficiency in close-quarters combat.

The 10.8/6 NJ, Belt Fed, Water Cooled, Machine Gun, Model 36, Year 21,833 CFE, was the standard MG used in the Auxiliary Legions. Built to be a simple to operate weapon, it proved itself defended the trenches during the Yano War. During the war several machine guns were modified by shortening the water jacket and using it a an unwieldy carbine, or mounted onto vehicles were space was limited.

The 10.8/6 NJ 14 Shot, Semi-Automatic Self-Loading Carbine, Model 13, Year 35,083 CFE was created a year after the Yano War broke out as a way to save materiel for the war effort and create a compact weapon for the cavalry units. The idea was later changed slightly by taking a Semi-Rifle, cutting it down, and modifying it to take box or drum magazines instead of having its internal mag and making the Model 13 fully automatic. The Model 13 was quickly approved for mass production midway through its trials after an administrative error; an error that resulted in the execution of over 500,000 bureaucrats. Being left with millions of these new weapons and seeing it as a waste to destroy them, the Chozoan military started issuing them to Auxiliaries garrisoning cities in the Yano Empire and units stationed in the trenches to repel enemy assaults in the confined spaces. After a few months, the Model 13 became rather popular for its compact size, ease of use, stopping power, and controllable rate of fire. Many were adopted by the Jelshin Obliarii (the Chozoan secret police and intelligence agency) for its covert operations.

The Chanvy Mk.2 Self-Loading Rifle was developed by the Chanvy Empire as a new rifle to replace the Double Rifle, the Mk.2 was the first domestically produced bolt-action rifle in the Chanvy Empire. Designed around the new, locally produced 31.45/222 Koriks (8.5x60mm), the Mk.2 borrowed the Chozoan Service Rifle's straight pull-back bolt-action design. While latter replaced by the improved Mk.4, the suddenness of the Yano War resulted in most of the retired rifles returning to service. Towards the end of the war, production of the Mk.4 increased and the Mk.2's were slowly removed from service yet again. Many Mk.2's were even re-chambered for Yano Empire's 2.805/19.4 Oraku (8.5x64mm) round and given to Yano. Being the same caliber eased this greatly and made it a simple task.

The Chanvy Mk.4 Self-Loading Rifle was developed by the Chanvy Empire and named after its coreworld. A bolt-action rifle of the straight pullback design similar to the Chozoan Service Rifle, the Mk.4 allowed for rounds to be cycled quickly. The locally produced 31.45/222 Koriks (8.5x60mm) was widely praised by Chanvy soldiers during the Yano War for its stopping power and great armor penetration attributes. Towards the end of the war, many Yano units were issued Mk.4's because of this. While the standard issue rifle of the Chanvy Empire, many newly formed units created for the war were poorly equipped, so many were issued Chozoan Service Rifle re-chambered for the 8.5x60mm round or used the older Mk.2's.

The Chanvy Double Rifle was considered an antiquated design when the Yano War broke out. After many years of service, the Double Rifle was replaced by the Mk.4 chambered for the same round. While considered outdated, many Chanvy units at the start of the Yano War were lacking arms, so the Chanvy military put the older rifles back into service. As the war progressed and production of Mk.4's increased, the Double Rifle once again began to fade back into obscurity within the military, but gained popularity with hunters and settlers.

The J-31 Bolt-Action Rifle of the Yano Empire was considered an example of its poverty. A cheap weapon that was infamous for breaking during combat, the J-31 was widely called "the Rifle That Allowed Kivan to Invade." Using the locally produced 2.805/16.5 Oraku (8.5x50mm) round, the round was basically a 31.45/222 Koriks round from Chanvy cut down so more lead could be used in the manufacture of ammo. While its negative aspects were widely criticized, it did have some great attributes; it held 10 rounds and was considered very accurate. While the bolt frequently broke, it was relatively easy to quickly fix temporarily with the lace from a boot and its recoil was easy to control. A straight pullback design, the J-31 housed its 10 rounds in tube, making stripper clips unable to be used, slowing reloading considerably.

The J-45 Bolt-Action Service Rifle was adopted by the Yano Empire mid-way through the war. Designed with help from Chozoa, the J-45 was intended to replace the infamous J-31. Built to use a new, more powerful round, the 2.805/19.4 Oraku (8.5x64mm) round, though some were chambered for the 2.805/16.5 Oraku round, the J-45 was more durable than the J-31 mainly to handle the power of the new round. A strait pull-back bolt-action like that used in the J-31 and the Chozoan Service Rifle gave the J-45 a decent rate of fire. While built to hold 5 rounds, about half that of the J-31, the J-45 could be reloaded with stripper clips speeding up reloading considerably. While intend to replace the J-31, due to the war, the J-45 never managed to fully replace the J-31 until over three centuries after the war.

The R-58 Bolt-Action Service Rifle was the standard of the Kivan Empire. An accurate rifle using a tradition bolt-action, the R-58 had tremendous stopping power due to its 10.2x74mm round. First fielded during the war with Nifka, the R-58 was quickly accepted into service and was used by first invading armies into Yano. Chambered to hold 5 rounds along with its tradition bolt-action cycling caused it to have a much slower rate of fire compared to other rifles fielded during the war. After the war, many discharged soldiers on both sides brought home their rifles from the war (either standard issue or captured) and widely used as a hunting rifle. High quality metals help control some of its recoil and allowed the R-58 to withstand abuse by ill trained conscripts.

The R-60 Sharpshooter Rifle was introduced midway through the Yano War. Based heavily off the R-58, the main difference of the R-60 was its elongated round. Designed to increase the range of the rifle, the new 10.2x80mm rounds, while increasing range, drastically increased barrel maintenance. The odd mounting of the scope was to allow for the use of stripper clip.

The T-94 Machine Gun was the standard MG of the Kivan Empire. Designed during the Yano War, to simplify logistic issues the T-94 was chambered for the common 10.2x74mm round of the R-58 rifle. A water-cooled, belt-fed MG, the T-94 was used to great effect at defending Kivan lines throughout the war. The T-94 inflicted a heavy death toll during enemy charges across no-man's land. The T-94 continued to be in service until newer designs made it obsolete. During the Yano War, several were chambered for the heavier 10.2x80mm round used in the R-60 to increase range and stopping power; these weapons were titled the T-94v.

The T-76 Service Carbine was originally built for cavalry units but found its way onto the front lines. Using a smaller round, the 10.2x45mm round, the T-76 still packed devastating stopping power. Popular among Kivan soldiers fighting in the trenches and throughout Yanan cities, the T-76 was eventually issued in greater numbers by the mid-years of the conflict.

The K-7 and O-7 were essentially the same weapon only differing in a few areas. Chambered for the 10.2x24mm round, the K-7 was a high power pistol that became standard issue for the Kivan military. Fed by 7-round stripper clips due to the fixed magwell limited the amount of rounds. Eventually the K-7 was modified into a fully automatic weapon by extening the barrel, adding a simple handguard, and moving the rear sight to the front creating an awkward sight picture. The O-7 Machine Pistol was highly popular during the war.

The Icronkan U-89 Bolt-Action Rifle was the standard issue rifle of the military of the Icronkan Union. Bordering the Kivan Empire, the Icronkan Union tried to maintain its policy of neutrality during the war while being wary of Kiva, yet it was selling raw material and giving loans to Kiva. The Icronkans hoped to keep Kiva from invading it by supplying its war machine in Yano in the hopes that it would wear itself out. Icronkan leaders also gave loans to Kiva in an attempt to make as much money form Kiva as possible. During the war the Icronkan Union also provided mercenaries to both keep Kiva happy and suck as much money as possible from an already bankrupted nation.

The Nu-Kalajik Twel Auto-Carbine was a simple, cheap weapon developed in the Nu State, a nation bordering Kiva. The Nu State provided mercenaries to Kiva for the same reasons as the Icronkans. Designed to use captured Chozoan 11.7/3.36 NJ rounds during the war to ease the strain on resources, the Nu-Kalajik Twel was popular with the Kivan Army for its rate of fire, compact size, and low maintenance.

The Type 89 Self-Loading Rifle was the standard issue rifle of the Roslev States, a protectorate of the Chozoan Empire. While the Roslev States joined in the fighting, they were put under the command of Chozoan officers. A traditional and antiquated bolt-action rifle, the Type 89 was well tested by the time the Yano War broke out. Using the 12/7.44 NJ (10x62mm) round, the Type 89 had great stopping power and was widely used by Chozoan snipers and marksmen for its accuracy. The Type 89 was also praised for its high durability.

The Am-Yasram Revolver Rifle was an ancient traditional rifle of the Chu Shan people and the Chu Shan State's armies. Named after the world of origin, it was originally created as a hunting rifle, the Am-Yasram was quickly copied by other tribes. When the majority of the Chu Shan people united to form the Chu Shan State, the Am-Yasram continued to be in service centuries after other nations modernized their arsenals. When the Chu Shan State joined in the Yano War on the side of Yano against Kiva, many were brought to the front lines. Due to centuries of trade with the Chozoan Empire, the Am-Yasram was eventually chambered for the 10.8/6 NJ. This allowed the Chu Shan and the Chozoans to share ammunition, helping to simplify logistics. The same ammo type allowed the Am-Yasram to be used by Chozoan Forces as well, notably its cavalry units.

The Am-Qualam Revolver Rifle was originally an attempt by the Chu Shan State to modernize and replace the Am-Yasram (though the Yano War caught the Chu Shan State unprepared and more Am-Yasrams saw service than the Am-Qualam). The Am-Qualam was designed to keep what was seen as the best features of the Am-Yasram and further improve upon them. While not entirely successful, it achieved acceptable results and was pressed into service.

The Am-Markor Semi-Automatic Rifle was an attempt by the Chu Shan State to copy and improve upon the Chozoan Semi-Rifle. The project was a huge failure. The Am-Markor featured an open mag well to allow the firer to count the rounds. It allowed dirt, dust, and mud into the chamber causing frequent jams and misfires. The bolt frequently failed to fully cycle. To safe costs, the new 9.24/7.56 NJ round was made with inferior brass (many were made with copper) that frequently jammed the bolt or remained in the chamber. Many millions were produced before these defects were detected and when they were the Chu Shan military simple locked them in reserves and production was stopped. When the Yano War broke out, the Chu Shan State was caught unprepared and was forced to reissue the defective rifles until a suitable replacement could be found. As the war progressed some issues were fixed. Better quality rounds helped prevent jamming. Soldiers found out they could uses wax paper or thin metal to cover the exposed mag well. While they didn't fix all the issues with the Am-Markor, they proved sufficient.

The Am-Za'im Lever-Action Rifle was created for hunting. During the Yano War, the Chu Shan was quick to press as many of them into service. The Am-Za'im was popular among cavalry units in the Chu Shan State and the Chozoan Empire. Many millions were ordered and used by the Yano Empire as many of its soldiers preferred its faster rate of fire and its fourteen round tube magazine.

The Vu Plasma Musket was created by the high-tech Vu race on the boundaries of the Chozoan Empire, the Lotian Kingdom , and Yano Empire. As a non-humanoid race, the Plasma Musket is difficult to use by non-Vu users. The Vu fought against both sides throughout and after the Yano War. The Plasma Musket is a smooth-bore, blackpowder weapon that uses high-tech rounds and parts to launch a ball of plasma towards an enemy. The round is an advanced electrostatic generator, using the friction caused by the firing to energize the air around it, creating a field of plasma. While the Vu were extremely advanced, it remained a mystery as to why they used the low-tech blackpowder to propel the round. Many muskets were captured and taken as prizes after the extermination of the Vu.

All text added on MS Paint, as are the lines dividing each sides weapons. The Roslev rifle was also touched up a little on MS Paint, to help expanded the length of the lower part of the rifle.
NOTE: I made a mistake with the .6/4.9 NJ round. It should be 10.8/6 NJ

Quite a diversity of arms for a war. Suppose each side used captured arms of the opposing forces as well?

Yes. Yano used the most amount of differing arms due to its lack of supplies

The Yano War broke out in 35,082. The Yano Empire was a rather large, but militarily weak, impoverished, and largely corrupt empire bordering the Chozoan, Chanvy, Kivan, and Nimo Empires, along with the small Lotian Kingdom and the Great Frontier (at the time a massive, largely unexplored and highly contested region of space). Many horrific sights were seen as soldiers on both sides committed war crimes and pillaged the worlds of Yano. Many worlds were simply destroyed such as the strategically vital world of Octarius 7 by Kopozul Qotile.

It's a year for a different, space-fairing empire. It focused more on melee weapons, and eventually energy weapons for the elite troops. The auxiliaries, who make up the vast bulk of the Chozoan military, are from a region in the empire known as the Southern Kingdoms. They are semi-autonomous ethnic tributaries. The Chozoan Empire believed that giving these troops such advanced weaponry would give them a reason to revolt, and make it more difficult to suppress. 11,005 CFE would roughly be before fire was harnessed on Earth.
