The Type 48 was first fielded in 2049 after nearly a decade of continuous research and development, the whole project costing hundreds of trillions of Yen. A bit of an ambitious project, the Forth Sino-Japanese WarΒ (2045-2058) prompted the researchers to rush the final project. The main advantage of the Type 48 is it's extremely distinctive main gun, a massive railgun. Able to fire a small projectile at hypersonic speeds at a range of over 15km, their is little that can survive a hit from a Type 48. Its main drawbacks are its thin armor and its main gun. The Type 88 Railgun, while power and extremely advanced, requires a lot of power and generates a tremendous amount of heat. The extreme temperatures created from firing the gun risk frying the tank's electronics. The potential rate of fire is greatly reduced because of this, however, since it greatly out ranges most enemy tanks and some artillery, the Type 48 has been known to be something of a tank sniper. The majority of the Type 48's first saw service during the Defense of Thailand in 2055 when the Chinese Federation invaded the northern regions of the country. The Type 48 was used to great effect destroying countless Chinese vehicle while only suffering 3 losses due to technical problems.
