Star Fleet’s satisfaction with the performance of the Harris’s Hawk Class fast attack craft could not be understated. Even though Star Fleet did not personally field the class, but through it’s security contracts with its manufacturer and operator Windfall Industries had become an integral part of security operations and escort services throughout Star Fleet especially along border regions and frontier colony efforts, which had Star Fleet personal getting much direct work and contact with the class.

The second generating of the Harris’s Hawk Class fast attack craft featured many upgrades over the first generation including a permanently installed fully fleshed out warp core/impulse deck, and secondary impulse engine clusters at the aft of the hull. These are produced by Windfall Industries specifically for these vessels with no outside subcontracting or third party help. The most noticeable differences are the massive RCST pads (Reaction, Control, Stability Thrusters). Although, generally considered too large for vessels of this size, it afforded it an unprecedented amount of maneuverability compared to other ships. The vessel can literally flip head to tails either direction to bring its torpedoes to bear. Also with the additional RCST it can perform maneuvers typically seen by zero G starfighters. The craft also has an increase in overall warp speed and impulse speed performances. Able to maintain warp 9.5 for 36 roughly hours and an emergency speed of 9.89 for 5 hours after which it must either slow or drop from warp to allow emergency cooling of the nacelles to occur. Also, with a traditional warp core its coloration is the more familiar cool blues thanks to the well known high purity warp plasma that Star Fleet is renown for in the nacelles and engine units.

Of course the additional power supplied by actual warp cores allowed for a massively upgraded SIF generators (Structural Integrity Field) to negate the effects to the vessel and crew of high speed maneuvering. The torpedo compliment was slightly increased from 32 to 40, again split evenly between the two launchers and phaser recharge time is greatly reduced.

With the increased funding and overall upgrade of the class to this second gen status, modern amenities afforded to their crews including actual crew accessible replications instead of the synthesizers, and a very small holo-suite (really a broom closet).

With the upgrade of existing craft and deployment of newly constructed units Star Fleet has awarded several lucrative contracts to Windfall Industries including construction of other classes of ships which well be detailed in later articles.
