*ahem* Fluff-man to the rescue! The Tau can see through that smoke easily. I seem to recall that either the Tau can see further into the infared spectrum than humans, or their helmets have thermal vision. One or the other. I know for a fact that XV-8s have thermals. Either way, smoke's not going to do a lot

you can put allot stuff in that, even something like magnetic powder which derange the electronic.
and for the infrared... I don't think it's so high evolved by them. True, they can see the infrared signatur but it is so weak like the hearing or scent from a normal human.
And I don't it works really good on a hot desert planet.
