every flat color on a single level or all on the same layer?

The anti-alias tip is great because I noticed that I'd always have to reduce the number of colors that the wand tool would select if a section of color was close to a similar colored section.

I'm always being surprised that there are still things I don't know about Photoshop.

To me using the Lasso Tool to make selections to do the Flats is very slow (I used to do it that way).

I use the Magic Wand set to 0 and no Anti-Aliasing and make selections on the (locked) Outline Layer, switch over to the Flats Layer, Expand the Selection by 4 or 5 pixels and Fill with the Bucket. This method works great for large areas, then go back with a Pencil tool to do touch ups in small areas that get missed or are to small to do with this method quickly.

I can do Flats this way super fast.

hm sounds good but I never got the idea how to expand a selection o.O might you tell me how you do ? pleez ?

use the Magic Wand set to 0 and no Anti-Aliasing and make selections on the (locked) Outline Layer, switch over to the Flats Layer, Expand the Selection by 4 or 5 pixels (this assumes you're working in high res like 300 dpi) to Expand the Selection , once the Selection is made go to (menu) Select / Modify / Expand and select how many pixels you want to expand by.

Pretty simple really

this helped quite a bit. ive gone through countless tuts on how to digitally paint-i like how detailed you got, and you also used different techniques than most-but insightful!
i also like that you went into detail on the background-something nearly everybodies' vague on.

You know it is stuff like this that allows a newbie, like myself, to dream and hopefully act on imagining and creating something they would ordinarily back burner then forget about. Thanks!!

Hi there, I've been taking some tips from your tuts and they are very helpful, thank you. But I've come into a rut. I have a piece that was too big for my scanner, so I took a scan of each side. Is there a way on photoshop to combine those two pieces?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

surthur In reply to BrokenRapture781 [2008-03-06 20:14:26 +0000 UTC]

sure. you have the measurements of the old entire picture ? then create a new blank file with its size and simply copy paste the cuttet pieces. if it doesnt match , try out turning off and on the option "snap".
anyway it will be work to do

BrokenRapture781 In reply to surthur [2008-03-07 00:35:08 +0000 UTC]

I tried the copy and paste thing, but couldn't get it to work, but a lightbulb went off and I thought "duh! clone stamp!" Worked perfect. Thanks for the help.

the style of the character doesnt match the bg at all...

but i guess thats the case with most anime now a days anyway.

surthur In reply to saltypandadog [2008-03-06 20:09:57 +0000 UTC]

I dont know , "HΓΌter der Unsterblichkeit" is a celebrated german comic (in western style" and is justdone this way. old animations were done this way as well. so I am not sure why you use the word "anime". djungle book is not something modern isnt it
