Description
At cold winter nights we all need something to warm our hearts and keep us safe from dangers outside. It was very difficult do make good picture out of this dagger because the blade reflects light like a mirror. A reward from hours of polishing. Blade is 20 cm long, about 5.5 mm thick and 5.4 cm wide. Its really razorsharp and pointy.
Handle is made from birch root (i am not 100% sure on this one) and is coloured with epoxy resin. Wood contained some flaves but it was hard to find a beautiful piece of wood of that size. Artist side in me need to say that it gives the piece its uniqueness and character
On the back of the handle theres silver dragon. I hope i can put it up soon. Screwup version can be seen on my site.

This is amazing! All of your work is amazing! I wish I could make swords and daggers! This is just lovely. I usually don't like gold, but I love the tones of the red and gold and the detail of the dragon is splendid. Great work!

I like the twisty dragon, the color of the metal, and the color of the handle. I'd be happy to have this by my bed at night!

Thanx! With good polishing and treatment wood really starts to "glow". In this case off course i had wood with exeptionally beautiful grain. It had some structural flaws but it was hard enough to find big enough piece to fit this dagger

The flaws aren't obvious, it's still beautiful.

Wow! Very impressive.
How do you make the piercing and carving on the blade? Is it all drilled and filed and then the center section etched?

Thanx - you are quite correct - i had to use variety of tools but dremmel' like tools were most important.

Very good job sir! What is your process for getting the dragon on there? is it carved by dremel before heat treating? also, the hilt and butt are brass correct?
π: 0 β©: 1
Ugrik In reply to desautc [2008-01-09 09:00:58 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! You are basically right about dremmel but several other tools are needed as well. As for hit and butt - they are made from old howitzer cartridge case - most likely brass.
