Description
The Star Destroyer Valiant was a pre-Clone Wars Venator Star Destroyer length vessel with cruiser armarment and a low speed built by Kuat. Despite an impressive electronics suite, there were few takers apart from the judicial forces. The judicial forces would use them in escort and patrol roles.During the Clone Wars, a modified version of the class with more powerful engines, larger turbolasers, more lasers and missiles, and improved communication and sensors was ordered. This version was used as a flagship, stealth hunter, jamming and communications vessel. These roles proved to be well within its capabilities.
Despite this success, the Empire was ready to dispose of the class as it saw little need. Especially with large numbers of Victory and Acclamator class ships coming online. Imperial officers who viewed the class as a niche filler begged for it to be retained.
Then a Commander named Fzen Hlrek requested one. During the eight months that followed, over eight dozen pirate raids were vanquished as the Acclamators and Valiant were used to patrol. When pirate groups were spotted, the ship would engage while sending requests for help and more importantly, hyperdrive data.
The slow Victory Star Destroyers would respond and hyperspace close to the pirate ships and begin extermination. If the ship happened to be cloaked, then firing data would be provided.
The Valiant was suddenly recognized for its gifts and the orders of Acclamators were ceased in favor of more of the vessels. Even seizure of materials for the Death Star would barely halt its growth. Later on the Acclamators would be taken by the Imperial Army as a landing ship where it would see much success.
The Valiant, despite its age has soldiered on as the premier anti-pirate ship. As of 46 ABY, 800 new Valiants have been ordered from Kuat by the Coalition.
