This is simply gorgeous. I love the details and the setting sun in the background, which really gives the color a much more fiery kick (probably why you gave it that) and I love the contrast of the cooler colors in the beak and the chest.

Yeah, that was the point. It's also a reminder of potography of sunsets in the Savannah.

Garuda is also portrayed as the keeper of the northern winds. Or so I believe. =]
This is beautiful.

I don't know much of the actual mythology. I just took the name. My Garuda also is a keeper of the North in some sense though...

I actually am interested in all mythology and religions.
In my project there are indeed the creatures you named.
The Efreet (Ifrit) is a Jinn of Fire
The Behemoth is, like the Garuda, one on the ancient divine animals(which also include the Aspidochelone, Ichtyos, Fenril and Dahaka)
The leviathan is a aquatic ancient species that live inspired by the Aspidochelone.

Yep! I never knew about Leviathan being inspired by Aspidochelone. I need to research more.

Well, that is only in my project. In reality, I don't think there is anything like that.

I saw this on the DD, and I must say that this piece is magnificent - it truly deserves a DD. The colors just bring the picture to life, and the pose makes it remarkable. Pictures like this one make me feel like the art work is coming to life, so good job at capturing that feeling!

the pic is awesome....i love the vibrant colors but...i don't think this is Garuda...Garuda has a different beak i think...

Ultyzarus In reply to jimaaning [2009-12-01 20:10:12 +0000 UTC]
You are absolutely right. That is not Garuda from the Hindu Mythology, but A Garuda from my own imaginary realm. (Otherwise the title would not be Birth of THE Garuda, but Birth of Garuda)
I don't know that much about Garuda, but I think that if I protrayed him, it would be more like an anthropomorphic Falcon or other Bird of Prey.

Yes , although my version doesn't have the same backstory. It is in fact a nearly-divine animal.
Thanks a lot for the comment too!

Very good. You know I gotta figure out how to be reborn from my ashes. Could come in handy.

Ultyzarus In reply to toulon2342 [2009-12-01 17:03:35 +0000 UTC]
Well, first thing is you have to burn. Then you can have ashes to be reborn from. But I wouldn't try that myself
