Description
Jonathan didn’t turn around as he heard footsteps approach but simply shifted a little to allow Velkan to slip behind him and wrap him in his arms.„Why are you awake?“ Jonathan asked with a smile while Velkan nibbled on his neck.
„Woke up and you weren’t there…“ the wolf growled, his voice a bit coarse. „The bed felt empty.“
„It’s nice to know that one is needed.“ Jonathan closed the laptop.
Velkan grunted approvingly. He lazily ground his pelvis against Jonathan’s lower back.
„What are you doing online this late at night? Watching porn?“
„Oh, it’s nothing.“
„Having secrets, are we?“ Velkan whispered. His breath brushed over Jonathan’s neck.
„Maybe…“
„So you’re not going to tell me?“
„Maybe…“ Jonathan smirked. He enjoyed the game. „You have secrets, too, don’t you. For example, we never talk about yourself or your family.“
Velkan scowled and bit Jonathan’s neck playfully. „Okay. I’ll tell you one of my secrets. I’m afraid of lobsters.“
„Come again?“
Jonathan laughed but Velkan only pulled him closer. His lips were very close to Jonathan’s ear as he whispered: „It’s your turn.“
Jonathan felt his member harden, it touched the warm underside of the laptop. Despite that distraction, he opened it again, revealing the website.
„That’s not porn…“ Velkan said almost disappointed. He straightened up a little and gazed over Jonathan’s shoulder. „What the fuck? Did I tell you about my lobster thing for that? That’s the website of the Circle of Light."
„I never said it was porn, did I? Why would I look at porn when you’re in my bed?“
„You’re making a fair point, well played.“ He kissed Jonathan on the shoulder. „So you're still determined to do this, I take it?" The wolf's voice changed. The playfulness was gone.
"And you are still against it. And a bit mad at me."
"I'm not mad at you. I'm worried."
Jonathan leaned against Velkan's warm body and listened to the rain outside for a moment. It was pouring now. "I appreciate that. But it's going to be okay."
Velkan didn't reply. His eyes remained on the screen and the shiny website of this new age group Jonathan wanted to go undercover in. He had a bad feeling about this and nothing could change that.
~~~
From shortly after Jonathan joins the team of supernatural investigators which Velkan is part of. He's eager to prove himself and Velkan starts worrying because of his recklessness. This is actually a remake of an older piece. Several years old now. I just played with it and added a bit of animation. I was too lazy to animate more than the rain but hey, it's something. Hadn't had a GIF since Christmas and that wasn't too good.
PS: here's the original
I like the effect of the falling rain here.
And Poor Velkan's instincts may be right on the nose here.
You know, if nothing else that school has prompted you to use some fun new tricks which are quite charming.
Love this rendition.
Wanna know a secret? I taught most of those things to myself *chuckle* No, the school definitely opened up my access to PS, though, I give them that.
Thanks, my wolf.
not animated. f* me. still, excellent one. and sorry Lily ^^
wow, custom made hair. aren't you posh XDDD. nope, it was Elijah ^^
yeah, we had a comment exchange about it making Jon "more assertive".not the 1st time you change his hair but this time he feels so different. i wonder if the tones in your pix hasn't generally gotten colder, less skin/warm-ish...
that's weird, cuz now you say that ("Lately, I giving my pictures a more painted look which merges background and foreground better"), i think what actually bugged me was.. exactly the opposite impression. that in your older pix, generally, the characters were more integrated in the bgd. ok, i suck at tech details and at comparing things, i often can't put an impression into words nor define where a difference in a scene comes from, it's basically just an impression...
i see... yup, makes sense ^^
Hah, well with Elijah the issue was that I turned him more or less into Aidan Turner, but that was my inspiration for him for years but I could never do that until the great late SAV came around with the Aidan Turner morph set. XD
Yes, my pictures tend to be colder now. Back then I used a shader I created in a software called Postworkshop which also added an orange-y tint to the picture. By now, especially for night scenes, my pictures usually get an adjustment layer in Photoshop which is called "Crisp winter look" and cools the picture. In this case I found it rather fitting since the only real light source (even though the light isn't all realistic anyway) would be the cold glow of the laptop screen. In the other version they were on the level with the yellow streetlights
Hm, we have a completely different impression when it comes to that but as I said in the other comment, I begin to suspect that has also something to do with my use of depth of field. I don't always use it but here I found it rather fitting. I maybe have added more layers of rain to add additional depth. Hmmm....
yup, Elijah went through a few mods, lol. i had gotten used to the version i have in my/your faves and couldn't let go easily ^^. oh yeah, John Mitchell was my inspiration too.. mostly daydreaming lmao... also fanfics i never finished writing
there's also the thing that you had those styles, the comic-ish and the book cover-ish (less comic but still postworked), and i think i associated you/your art with them. seeing sth very different makes my brain think sth is wrong i guess...
i can't analyze a light source in a pic, i'm so not gifted. lighting is always a torture for me in a scene, too.. so just because i like the look of a pic better, i could create (or accept, from s'body else) an absolutely impossible light setting far from reality, probably even without realizing..
ofc if you changed the bgd you'd have to change the tone accordingly, logical. and probably agree about DOF, i generally don't like it much, and never use it (at least not near) ~
Believe it or not, I tried remaking an old favourite of mine of Elijah and Alessio and "Aidan Turner"-Elijah simply doesn't work. It looks wrong. It looks bad, downright. So I guess it's back to the "drawing board". I will probably never find a version of Elijah which I'm truly happy with.
Well, my style for a long time was based on a software called "Postworkshop" as I think I told you time and again, I'm sorry, I'm repeating myself sometimes. Often. A lot. Anyway, I'm not using that software anymore and I lost access to the shader I created in it (plus it only works on pictures of a maximum of 2000px and I render mine larger now). After I got lessons in PS at school I never went back. I love working with it and I think the future will be all either rather crisp or the "painted" style I used lately.
I promise not to overdo it with the DOF, I usually use it when the backgrounds I use have a rather low res. As for the cooler colours... I guess that will depend on the picture. I mean, Jon and Velkan in wolf form had a rather warm atmosphere while the newest upload, of course, had to be coooooool as ice
omg.. i hope i didn't spoil "your" Aidan mental vision/version of Elijah for you
"I will probably never find a version of Elijah which I'm truly happy with."... that sounds like.. ill-fated or star-crossed lovers. Ulysses' eternal search for his Elijah. imho you already had it, but since we live in different heads, lmao, i guess it's different for you... "but doth not fear, dear friend, for your quest has not ended yet, and fate hath still secrets to uncover". - or something very rpgeekish like that ^^
oh it's ok, i would probably not remember those tech details from one thread to the other if you didn't re-mention them, actually i appreciate. i see your point. can't relate much since i'm not constant enough to use the same settings in gimp/gmic, and wander aimlessly in DS through subjects and styles... but i understand what you mean ^^
you're not the only one abusing DOF sadly, and i think it's a pity it's so popular. why not use a neutral bgd then like then the poser bgd prop if your bgd is looking like nothing special anyways? imho it makes a pic look like a beginner's collage pic, like someone cut out a clear subject and pasted it on a pixel soup
while i can understand not everyone wants to/can render an actual, real bgd in a scene - i wish i did it a lot less cuz it eats my render resources enormously - using 2 renders (1 bgd, then 1 foreground) or just the fgd on any bgd by anyone, and then postworking them together gives the best results, again imho.
aaawwww.. Jon & Velkan always create "a warm atmosphere" around them, lmao ^^
Ooooh! Niedlich!!! ^^ Dieser leicht frustrierte Blick von Velkan ist toll. Und der Regen im Hintergrund sieht klasse aus, wie die Tropfen an der Scheibe hinunterrinnen. Gefällt mir gut!
Mir gefallen auch immer die kurzen Stories, die Du zu Deinen Bildern schreibst. Ich werde Deine Story definitiv lesen!!!
... eehm, ein Wolf, der vor Hummern Angst hat?? Ist das Dein Ernst, Velkan? XD Die sind doch sowas von niedlich!
Ich habe damals als ich die Originalszene geschrieben habe (die unter dem Originalbild) einen Freund gefragt, wovor Velkan Angst haben sollte - irgendetwas total abstruses. Zuerst stand da Truthähne, weil eben dieser Freund aufgrund einer Kindserfahrung Angst vor Truthähnen hat. Aber das ist an sich eine ziemlich amerikanische Kiste und mein Kumpel meinte spontan "Hummer!" und dabei blieb es.
Mit dem Regen selbst bin ich nicht 100% happy aber das Wasser an der Scheibe ist gut geworden ^^ Ich bin im Moment etwas schreibblockiert, aber ich hoffe ich kann hier bald was mit dir teilen. Das Remake des Morgens nach dem Pokerspiel ist auch noch auf der Liste
Hehe, yes, the scene is actually from an old version of the stories (I changed things about the characters several times until I was happy). I rewrote it, the original version is below the original picture.
Lately, I really feel like remaking old pictures with my new designs and skills. Especially since I never liked Jon's look on the original.
Thank you, dear
You’re welcome I know what you mean about remaking scenes. I have a few I’m going to remake. I was going to work on it this weekend but I have a commission to do
mmhh... i liked the older version better... the colors, Jon before his remodeling, Velkan or at least his eyes. and the rain from the scene with Dick on the street or them all in the car.
Ulysses3DArt In reply to portisHeart [2018-02-02 13:19:07 +0000 UTC]
Oh, the car scene rain is MUCH too difficult to animate. The colours, well, it's a different light setup here and I was going for more night feeling and the environment outside is completely different, so there's nowhere where the orange light would come from. And I have to admit I really hated how Jon looked in the original. Velkan's eyes, however, those I can blame on the fact that I turned this into a gif and had to severely resize it. Not all happy with either of their eyes here really.
wait.. wasn't the rain animated??? my memory is betraying me 0_° - i could have sworn the rain was animated. we talk about this scene with Jon, Velkan, Lucy (ehhh.. the girl? XD) and another guy sitting and bickering in a car, right?
seems you're happy with Jon's changes.. not the first time we disagree about a remodeling of one of your old characters - but hey, you're the artist, they're your creatures/friends, it's your world, so my opinion doesn't matter. i just liked the Jon from then better. also, it looks like you did something to your render engine, your recent pix are so different, i dunno how...
why do you have to resize an animated gif? i hardly do any, maybe for userpics, stamps, or smaller projects..
Ulysses3DArt In reply to portisHeart [2018-02-02 23:28:52 +0000 UTC]
Nope, not animated. Boy, that would be a bitch to do XD and her name is Lily
I love the new design for Jon though that "new design" is basically a different hair and a bit of a stronger chin. The only angle this hair doesn't work from is from the side. I'm getting custom hair made for that Everything else is basically the same, I just removed the weird looking beard which never quite worked. I guess the other changed design you mean is Richard, but I'm super happy with that one. He just looks adorable with it. It fits the changes I made to the character.
I haven't changed my render settings in ages - or my light sets for that matter. Everything else happens in Photoshop. Lately, I giving my pictures a more painted look which merges background and foreground better since my guys almost never end up in an actual rendered scene. And if the environment is rendered, I do that separately to have more control
That picture was huge. 4000xsomething pixels. Making an animated gif of that takes AGES and usually kills Photoshop.
