From a story of mine which I wrote from September 26th 2004 to September 9th 2007 (my first anniversary with my boyfriend who I met because he commented on this story). The lettering is a little tacky but then again the story was inspired by 80s soap operas like "Dynasty" or "Knots Landing". Maybe we should let the characters speak for themselves.

Jason (2nd on the right):

"Hi. I'm Jason Cunningham. I'm 29 and I'm one of the youngest detectives on the San Francisco Bay Department Homicide Squad. Being a cop runs in the family. My grandfather was a cop and my dad is commissioner in New York where I was born and raised. I have a younger brother named Gary who has a promising career in Baseball ahead of him. Probably the first Cunningham not to join the force. Well, what else? I... yeah, I'm gay. You see it's not like I have a problem with that... it's just... you know... I don't want the people at work to know. It would only cause problems. And my parents shouldn't know either... okay, I used to have a problem accepting my sexuality. My only experience was with Chris and... doesn't matter. I'm okay with it since I moved to San Francisco. That's what counts. Right? Working a bad case at the moment. Serial killer on the hunt for gay guys, more precisely gay hookers. Never thought I'd see Chris again. I can't believe it... here of all places."

Chris (far right):

"Hey. Name's Chris. Christopher Fairgate but I don't like being called Christopher. I'm working in a little pub in Downtown San Francisco. I was born in Dallas but I ran away from home after my asshole of a father beat the shit out of me when he found out I was a dirty fag. His words, not mine. I still have the scars. First I went to New York. Made a lot of mistakes in my life. I was a hooker, I did drugs. About the only good thing which ever happened to me in that town was Jason Cunningham. Or so I thought. Asshole ran off on me. Promised me to keep me safe, to help me find a new life. Fat lot of good those promises did me. And now, after moving to San Francisco and getting my life in line to the point of actually being able to care for myself I stumble upon the dead body of the only friend I made here in town, a guy with similar problems like I had I tried helping out. He's dead and now I'm a witness in a serial killer case. A case handled by Jason. Of all the people, of all the possible blasts from the past... it just had to be him..."

David (second from the left)

"A pleasure, I'm sure. My name is David Vanderveer. I'm a lawyer at Smithfield and Besson and I'm on the best way of becoming a partner. That is the only constant partnership I want though. I'm not a guy to commit. What's the fun in that? I'm 35, not 70. Jason is my best friend. I call him sunshine. We met shortly after he moved here and let me tell you he was the hottest and at the same time most adorable thing in the locker room on the day we met. I had never met a guy who was so sexy and had so little confidence in his own sexuality. We're friends with benefits now. Extremely good friends I might add. I love him like a brother. Still the poor guy doesn't realize he uses me as his substitute for a relationship he claims not to want. I mean we are not a couple but still he has sex with me exclusively. Oh well. If it makes him happy I won't complain. My life was perfect so far. At least I think it was. Until I met Jeremy. Everyone says that we make a fine couple. Nonsense! He is 12 years younger than me! And I don't want a relationship. Period. I guess..."

Jeremy (far left)

"Hi guys! I'm Jeremy, short Jem. At the moment I'm living in a small apartment with my friend and roommate Abby but I won't to make it big as a dancer. A dancer, that's what I am, what I do. Okay aside from the job as bartender and the... well some time ago I starred in some movies. Not that I expect anyone to know them... or to confess to know them. I'm not ashamed. It was good money and a good time. Still it's not what I want for my life. I want to dance. And David Vanderveer. Damn my f'ing heart. How could I fall for this jerk?! He is an asshole. And I love him."

There are more characters. Marcus, a teen, stuck between Jason's bi-curious brother and a cute movie nerd, Ash, Jason's new partner on the force... but it's a beginning. I never was able to render them as I have them in my head. This isn't as I pictured them back then. At least not Jason and David. But back then I was a yaoi manga fan and my perfect guy was... well lets say different from today - bishounen alert! That is why Jason and David finally developed some facial hair (and chest hair, ehehe) while I re-vamp the story and even change the first seven chapters a lot.
