-= Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Isabelle =-
Joining the battle is...the mayor's assistant?? She seems to borrow some fighting techniques from the Villager, but not very many. She's got her own collection of stuff to use as weapons, like brooms, toy hammers, party poppers, stop signs, water buckets, pom-poms...even a fishing line! It's time to turn a new leaf!

I don't hate Isabelle being here. It's clear that there was a lot of time and effort put into her, but the way she was revealed and the fact that she's a semi clone make her sort of underwhelming, especially after the likes of K. Rool and Ridley.

Logically though, what better time was there to reveal her? Saving her for another Smash Direct would be dumb, since the heavy hitters (Assuming there are any left.) are usually reserved for those. Despite being from the 4th most popular Nintendo Franchise, and the face of it at that, nobody really wanted her in Smash (Which is why people are complaining.), so revealing her in an actual Direct is better.

Regarding the November Direct, a lot of us saw Geno's SMRPG artwork on one of the Battle Arena tokens. Considering those tokens seem to show either fighters or Spirits, it seems more than likely that...Geno might be a Spirit, too.
But if there are other SMRPG Spirits in there, then it can't be too bad, right?

I really don't care either way about Geno, I just thought him likely since Sakurai was picking the roster. Since he didn't entirely pick the dlc I'm thinking Erdrick instead.

"Logically though, what better time was there to reveal her?"
Literally any other time than at the end of a Nintendo Direct. They could've revealed her back during E3, they could've revealed her during a Smash Direct, they could've revealed her on the blog with no fanfare and it would've been a hundred times better than revealing her at the end of a Nintendo Direct.
"Saving her for another Smash Direct would be dumb, since the heavy hitters (Assuming there are any left.) are usually reserved for those."
Rosalina and Little Mac were revealed at the end of normal Nintendo Directs, what are you talking about?
"Despite being from the 4th most popular Nintendo Franchise, and the face of it at that, nobody really wanted her in Smash (Which is why people are complaining.), so revealing her in an actual Direct is better."
Nobody is mad that she's in the game at all, they're mad because that's all they showed, and it was very underwhelming. I mean, that's it? You had the chance to reveal something new for Smash, something that would leave people excited beyond compare, like Isaac or Incineroar or Bandanna Waddle Dee or Doomguy or a rabbid or ANYTHING that wasn't just a semi-clone, and that was what you decided to reveal? A character who plays very similarly to another character already in the game? And you decided to announce it with the least exciting trailer to ever be conceived? To put it into a context you might understand, this would be like if instead of revealing Isabelle at the end of that Direct, they just revealed Chrom for the first time and nothing else. Sure, people who like Fire Emblem or played Awakening would be happy, but everyone else would feel very dissatisfied. And keep in mind, this was after a Nintendo Direct that itself was very ho-hum. I mean yeah, a new Luigi's Mansion game and a bunch of Final Fantasy games finally coming to a Nintendo console is great and all, but that was basically it. All else they had was a bunch of third party ports and... New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. How exciting.

...?
Seriously. Can you actually explain why revealing her at the end of the direct was worse than any of these options.
I'm talking Ultimate Specifically. Anyway, Rosalina is definitely not what I'd consider a "Heavy Hitter.", Little Mac maybe, but Rosalina? No way.
I'd like to correct myself here, Animal Crossing is actually the 7th Most Popular Franchise of Nintendos, 6th if we don't count the "Wii" franchise (Wii Sports, Wii Party, etc.).
Ah yes, Reveal Geno at the end of a Regular, Non-Smash Focused Nintendo Direct alongside Animal Crossing 2019 and save the Semi Clone of Villager for the closing reveal of the next giant blowout of Smash news. There's like, at most 3 Uniques left, probably less, with one most likely being Incineroar. Assuming Nintendo isn't a fucking idiot with their marketing, there's at least one direct left this year, assuming there's one newcomer left, they get revealed here. Assuming there's more, A Smash Direct seems logical alongside or instead of this reveal, or a Pokemon direct about Gen 8 showing a Pokemon newcomer like Gardevoir at some point. There is not much content left. They cannot have realistically revealed a new Unique along with or instead of Isabelle and had enough content left to reveal later. I do agree Isabelle didn't have that exciting a trailer, but it was fitting for Animal Crossing.

"Seriously. Can you actually explain why revealing her at the end of the direct was worse than any of these options."
Well, I ended up going into more detain in the third section and that sort of covered my reasoning, so I thought to just leave that thought there as is.
"Anyway, Rosalina is definitely not what I'd consider a "Heavy Hitter.", Little Mac maybe, but Rosalina? No way."
So one of the most popular characters in the Mario series isn't what you'd consider a "heavy hitter", and yet Little Mac is? I mean, what would you consider a "heavy hitter"? Do you have a measurable scale for this? Or is it all subjective for you?
"Ah yes, Reveal Geno at the end of a Regular, Non-Smash Focused Nintendo Direct alongside Animal Crossing 2019 and save the Semi Clone of Villager for the closing reveal of the next giant blowout of Smash news."
First off, I never said that a character like Geno should've been revealed in that direct. And second, don't lie, that would've been fucking awesome.
"There's like, at most 3 Uniques left, probably less, with one most likely being Incineroar."
Not sure where you're getting your numbers from, but I have to disagree with you there. For there to be as many newcomers as you're stating, that'd mean that we're getting less newcomers than Melee, which had 8 newcomers (excluding the six clone characters). Smash 4 had 15 newcomers (excluding clones and DLC characters). I don't believe we'd be getting as many newcomers as that at base, but I find it hard to believe that we'd be getting anywhere near the numbers you're suggesting.
"Assuming Nintendo isn't a fucking idiot with their marketing, there's at least one direct left this year, assuming there's one newcomer left, they get revealed here. Assuming there's more, A Smash Direct seems logical alongside or instead of this reveal, or a Pokemon direct about Gen 8 showing a Pokemon newcomer like Gardevoir at some point. There is not much content left."
Holy shit, could you say the word 'assuming' a few more times? Why are you using these assumptions as a point of fact? Do you have anything to back these up? Why do you believe there'll be only one more Direct before launch? Why do you think there's only one newcomer left? You don't. You have nothing to support your claims and are just making baseless assumptions.
"They cannot have realistically revealed a new Unique along with or instead of Isabelle and had enough content left to reveal later."
We're currently at 4 newcomers not counting Isabelle and we're 2 and a half months away from release. There is no way that they'd only have one more newcomer left to reveal sans Echo Fighters and DLC.

I still haven't seen anything about that first point.
Punch Out on the Wii was an extremely successful reboot for the standards of what it was. Rosalina while yes, a Mario character, wasn't that requested compared to the other Mario characters like Bowser Jr or Waluigi.
You wanted more, Geno is more. Simply an example, if they revealed more content now, that would be less time to focus on content that isn't big enough to get it's own direct and less news to reveal later in regards to Smash.
Don't expect to many newcomers. We've gotten 9 Newcomers. More than 15 would definitely not be a small amount of newcomers. I admit I could be totally wrong, but more evidence points towards around 3 characters than it does say 5 or more.
From about this Month to December 7th there's usually one Regular Direct in between. Not baseless fact. I am assuming, yes, but I do have evidence. There could be 2 Regular Directs. There could be 12. But in the past, there's usually been 1, so there will likely be one.
It's probably two (Not counting Ken), but either one or three is possible. I admit I was wrong with this statement.

"I still haven't seen anything about that first point."
It was the paragraph in my first reply to you when I began with "Nobody is mad that she's in the game at all, they're mad because that's all they showed, and it was very underwhelming.". I felt that that that paragraph covered my first response well enough.
"Rosalina while yes, a Mario character, wasn't that requested compared to the other Mario characters like Bowser Jr or Waluigi."
Oh okay, so I guess what you consider a "heavy hitter" really IS all up to your subjective interpretation. Good to know.
"You wanted more, Geno is more."
I didn't say that I wanted more in addition to Isabelle, rather I stated that I think it would've been better to have them reveal anything else BUT Isabelle there because many people, myself included, found the reveal of a semi-clone at the end of a Nintendo Direct to be very underwhelming, especially when you contrast it with the aformentioned reveals of Little Mac and Rosalina,
"Simply an example, if they revealed more content now, that would be less time to focus on content that isn't big enough to get it's own direct and less news to reveal later in regards to Smash."
What in the hell are you talking about? How would there be less time to focus on the minutae of Smash should they reveal more now? Motherfucker, they MAKE the time. They're the ones that decide when and what shit gets revealed. And if you haven't noticed, that's basically what they did in the august Direct: They decided to dedicate a good 15 or so minutes to explaining a bunch of the little details and quality of life changes in the new game, alongside the reveals of two wholly original characters and three Echo Fighters. And how, pray tell, would there be less to reveal if they had replaced Isabelle with someone like Isaac or Incineroar? They'd still have Isabelle to reveal, that wouldn't change. All that would be changed is that she'd be revealed at a later, and in my opinion more appropriate, time. That's it.
"Don't expect too many newcomers. We've gotten 9 Newcomers. More than 15 would definitely not be a small amount of newcomers. I admit I could be totally wrong, but more evidence points towards around 3 characters than it does say 5 or more."
Okay first off, when Sakurai said not to expect too many newcomers, he was never making any sort of definitive statement on the number of new fighters he would be including, he was just managing expectations. That's not to say that I believe that we're NOT getting less than 15 new fighters, just that it's not going to be as much as that. Second, I get the feeling that you're lumping Echo Fighters into the same camp as newcomers, which they aren't. Echo Fighters are just a copy and paste job of another fighter with some small tweaks here and there, and take a considerably lesser amount of time to create compared to an entirely original character.
"From about this Month to December 7th there's usually one Regular Direct in between. Not baseless fact. I am assuming, yes, but I do have evidence. There could be 2 Regular Directs. There could be 12. But in the past, there's usually been 1, so there will likely be one."
You do realize that this is the quickest period of time between official reveal to release in the series history, right?
smashboards.com/proxy.php?imag…
The longest period since the official reveal at E3 we've gone without at least one new character reveal is the two months between E3 and the 8th of August. And you notice that each game considerably ramps up the amount of characters revealed closer to launch, right? Relatively speaking, there's a sizeable gap between now and December 7th, do you really think we're only going to get 1-3 more (non-Echo) characters revealed before then? I have a hard time believing so. Furthermore, why would you assume that the rest of the Smash characters would be revealed in regular Directs? I think they'd be more inclined to reveal stuff like that in their own dedicated Smash Directs, like they did in August.
Also, if you had any evidence to support what you're claiming, you would've already posted it. If you actually do, I'd really love to see it. I just hope it isn't the box theory. ...it's the fucking box theory, isn't it?

I give up, this is literally just us making assumptions with minimal evidence, when we're probably both fucking wrong and there's something like 40 characters left but every single one is an echo or some shit.
To clarify, it isn't the box theory, but Ken and Incineroar are characters I'm personally betting on, plus either Dante or Vergeben's Square Enix Rep.

I dunno. If the Coro Coro leak about there being 108 stages in total is true, that would mean there's 5 new stages left to see - and likely at least as many newcomers to go with them.
But we'll see in time, yeah? We just need patience.

I totally believe CoroCoro, but assuming there's just Ken and Incineroar (Or some other obligatory Pokemon character), we could still have Stages. Pokemon Stage, Star Fox Stage, DK Stage, F-Zero Stage, and Fire Emblem Stage. Pokemon stage is a given since it's freakin Pokemon, plus Incineroar or some other Pokemon rep possibly needing a stage if they're Alolan, with the other 4 Bumping Each Universe up to Four Stages. Makes no sense for any of them except maybe F-Zero to have less than MOTHER. Alternatively, New Metroid Stage since we got both Ridley and Dark Samus, or simply a stage without a fighter, like Pictochat, Smashville, or Hanenbow. Maybe A Rhythm Heaven Stage?
Honestly I do hope there's way more than Ken and Incineroar, but I doubt it.
