Doa's unique markings caught the attention of every male in the area of the Jangwa, and she easily could have gone with them. She was darker than most desert lions, but she would do well enough with a mate who was a skilled hunter.

Yet she refused all of them. The Jangwa had taken her grandmother in, and her mother had instilled within her a deep sense of gratitude and loyalty to them. Even as the lands dried, she stayed.

It was only when it was mentioned that they king held an interest in her that Doa took an interest in a male. He was kind and his pelt fair enough, so she accepted his advances.

Doa fled into the desert to bear her cubs, confident in her own hunting skills, and by the time she returned her mate was dead. A lioness named Zira now called herself queen, and Doa was not stupid. She had likely killed her mate, and would kill her cubs if she could. Doa sought help from her cousin, and together they caught Zira's son. Doa drew blood as she threatened to kill him if Zira didn't back down, and so Zira made an offer of her elder son to Doa's elder daughter.

Zira would serve as regent, and they would rule together one day. She didn't trust Zira, but she didn't have a choice. She taught her daughters to fight from the moment they could walk. They often hurt the other cubs in their play, but Doa didn't discourage them.

Once Nuka was dead and Kovu exiled, Doa saw her chance, but before she could pull her plan together, Zira made the decision to attack the Pridelanders, only for Kovu to stop her. She followed Simba for one reason: to rid herself of Zira. Vitani was not one of them, but she was not a cub-killer like her mother.

She intended to take her daughters to their old territory, but Dalili had fallen pregnant. Doa expressed her disgust at the newborn cub - black mane, dark eye rims - but she had underestimated her daughter. Dotty refused to give up the cub, and she chose to stay in the Pridelands. After all she had done for her, Doa was furious, but she was not the daughter of Obayana and Dotty was. The pride followed her daughter, and Doa was left to sulk.
