Description This is an officially licensed image from Robert Jordan's 'The Wheel of Time', from the first book, 'The Eye of the World'.

Pencils by me, colors by Etienne St. laurent and another colorist he hired. lol. I then did a paint over on the foreground.

This is very easily one of my favorite pieces on WoT. Fantastic work. It truly does inspire one to write. And ultimately rip off Jordan, Tolkien, ect.

the trollocs seem too humanoid, and their chainmail would not be formfitting, but otherwise, good job. kinda reminds me of pelenor fields

Absolutely incredible work, in my mind you've managed to portray the stomach churning mix of human and animal features perfectly. They're the best Trollocs I've seen by far.

amazing work; I can't believe how much effort you put into these, and amazingly well you pull it all off. Perfect depiction

I myself always thought of those guys (haven't read the books in a while so he name escapes me, but the men that are mutated with boar heads etc) more mutated, like the orcs in LOTR, but that's still damn god.

It's a shame--they really didn't do the penciling justice, I think. Way too much white highlights, and the background falls quite flat (especially the birds; they are too dark and all the same value). (I believe in constructive crit!)
Otherwise, great piece on your part. I especially like the human in the grasp in front.

Tai shar Manetheren! Tai Shar!

That picture rocks, did picture the scene like that but not exactly what I thought Trollocs were like, they seem to havea muzzle like section showing their faces, but its licenced by RJ so, who am I to complain?

UnderdogMike In reply to HardLightComics [2011-02-21 03:10:09 +0000 UTC]

Jim aka Robert (RIP) was VERY specific about how the Trollocs were to look, and said that I nailed it. So anyone who doesn't draw or paint Trollocs the way I do is doing it wrong. lol

A-Tigers-Shadow [2006-12-04 22:26:47 +0000 UTC]

As I recall from Eye of the World, when Moirane Domodred tells Emond's Fielders about the Siege of Manetheren, the battle took place in the Two Rivers, at the river crossing to Manetheren. Not Tar Valon. Assuming it is meant to portray this battle, that would have been the bridge and city to Manetheren, which the army defended to the last man, buying their women and children time to escape (I believe.) But please correct me if I am mistaken.

Be that as it may, this is an awesome painting and is very accurate. Portrays emotions (fear, rage, anxiety) quite well. Very nicely done. Applause and congratulations are in order.

What a beautiful image......but are you sure it isn't near/at Whitebridge? Unless I'm mistaken and a similar one is found in Tar Valon....? xP

Kevinheldwhat In reply to etaru [2006-12-21 10:18:44 +0000 UTC]

I think if the battle was at Tar Valon they'd have either the Flame on the banners.

I'd think the Red Eagle banners would indicate that it is indeed the last battle at Manetheren.

Weren't both cities Ogier built? It's been a while since I've read the books.

(Nice job on the picture! It's fantastic, but a bit different that what I imagined..especially the trollocs)

The Trolloc Wars raged for 200 years before Manetheren was destroyed, and during that time Manetheren was constantly thwarting the shadow.

I assume this scene shows the army of Manetheren breaking one of the many sieges of Tar Valon.

You even got the geography right. Great job, most people that depict Tar Valon don't bother with Northharbor or Dragonmount if looking from the Northeast. I really appreciate this work. The only other thing I would have liked to see in this work is a Myrdraal, rather than the front Trolloc.
