An excerpt from a player's guide I've been writing for Hyrule: Total War, this bit focusing on dah' bestest fightas in Hyrule, the Moblins.

The fonts, layouts, and appearance of the guide is heavily inspired (nay, outright based entirely on) the Official Nintendo Player's Guide for Ocarina of Time: zeldauniverse.net/wp-content/u…

The cover of that guide was the very first image I ever saw of anything Zelda related, and pretty much was my entry into the series. That guide itself is pretty unique as well: instead of telling players exactly what to do it was written as a Historical document, chock full of chronology and lore (I know, something extremely rare in the series these days). As such I've modeled my guide in a similar manner: avoiding dumping numbers and statistics on players except where necessary and treating the volume as a historical document.

Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress. Some of the technical aspects (such as Rupee costs) are prone to change as the game is balanced over time. Some features may be removed or have not been fully added in yet as well. Let me know what you guys think, and stay tuned for the other factions to show up!

"I have nothing but sympathy for the various Blin species. They have struggled against adversity, enduring calamity after calamity, for generations beyond number, and they are viewed by the rest of the peoples of Hyrule as creatures of chaos and destruction. It is a tragedy that they are feared and reviled by so many, including us Hylians, as bloodthirsty brutes when in fact, they are not as savage as we believe them to be. We call them savages, monsters even, when we have committed plenty of atrocities of our own, atrocities that we believe to be justified as they were, presumably in the name of the Goddesses. Whatever the motive, bloodshed is still bloodshed. I can only hope and dream that one day we can put down our weapons and coexist with them. Alas, a dream is not reality until one puts their beliefs into their actions." Princess Zelda

hey, undying, do you have any plan to add botw story in hyrule total war (demise looks like a single soilder comparated with calamity ganon)

I don't have any plans in particular at the moment. The Miniblins here have some elements of the BotW Bokoblins. Link's blue outfit shows up on the Gerudo Ice Archers.

So Neph, what's your opinion on some of the newer "blin" designs that have been seen in Breath of the Wild, such as the lankier, almost feral-looking Moblins or the titanous blin big enough to wear a wrecked Guardian as a necklace?

They certainly look better than their last appearance in Skyward Sword.Β I slipped a tiny bit of the new Bokoblin into my Miniblin there.

Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Jesus Christ, man, this is hilarious. These Moblins are hysterical. Just a question: Do they still put a bunch of shit into a catapult and fling it at their enemies? Either way, these guys are kinda... childish? Have any armies simply considered giving the Moblins candy to make them go away?

Also, I can't tell whether the Hylians would preserve Ganon's plan or destroy it if they found it. There's still a bunch of shitty zealots among that lot and there always will be.

This guide is fun while being quite sad. They are a dying race, just not the same way as the gerudo. Can't tell if becoming more and more stupid because your lands were fucked on + being basically enslaved by an ancient demon is better or worse for survival than not being able to have male children and living in a crappy desert that only make it harder.

My guess on next is Twili, future me will see and know if present me is right X)

Well, I wasn't expecting my guess to be accurate, I'll tell you that.

My *Vaguely defined* psychic powers tell me to guess... The Deku!

Nah, just kidding with all that shirrahey- your guides are always a joy to read, Neph, and I- and everyone else -are really, truly glad you take the time out of your schedule to make them.

Each and every paragraph of the unit and building rosters builds up the characterisation established on the first proper page, and each hero's character can be told just from reading their small bio and the traits associated with them.

Hmm.Β  Once upon a time, my favorite part of the Moblins was that this Ganon wasn't a madman bent on power; he was basically the hero Demise chose after the Hylians' major heroine of old lit the blin lands on fire.Β  (Which, oddly enough, seems a lot like something Ganon would do.)

Though I still love that bit-I'm a sucker for bad guys with intelligence and actual reasons for wanting to take over the world-my new favorite bit is now these building descriptions!Β  Hahahahaha!Β  Ah, they bring a tear of joy to my eye.Β  And then kind of vaguely remind me that the blins are mostly that way in HTW because Hylia figuratively kicked their whole race in the head quite hard and then left the Hylians to keep doing so for many years.Β  But mostly it's hilarious!Β

"Dodoblins are among he most stupid members of Blin kind. They can barely be qualified as sentient and even seem to lack clever animal instincts and survival skills, instead suicidally throwing themselves at (usually much larger) prey."

Conceptually I love the idea of a mongrel army of idiots that you have to try and corral towards the enemy if you can keep it from tripping over itself. This looks like it's going to deliver on that a lot, and I quite look forward to the next update the Moblins are in!Β
But good god I feel like I've lost brain cells reading through those building descriptions x)
