Description This isn't the first time I've drawn Terence and Tumnus like this, and it won't be the last! I've always been a fan of the book by Roald Dahl, and I think both movies are excellent. My family thinks the version with Johnny Depp is extremely weird, and so they stay away from it. If you ask me, I think they're being a little picky. Sure, it's weird, but so is the book. I read that Roald Dahl didn't approve of the Gene Wilder version, but I think he would have approved of the Johnny Depp version.

I think I may or may not be related to Roald Dahl, since my mom's side of the family is named Dahl. I can't be sure, but if he really is part of my blood family, wouldn't that be incredible?

I love that one, too. The lyrics are a scream!

"Why would a fellow want a girl like her,
A frail and fluffy beauty?
Why can't a fellow ever once prefer
A solid girl like me?

She's a frothy little bubble,
With a flimsy kind of charm.
And with very little trouble,
I could break her little arm!

Oh, oh why would a fellow want a girl like her,
So obviously unusual?
Why can't a fellow ever once prefer
A usual girl like me?"

If you're related to Roald Dahl, then you are awesome.

I personally like the Gene Wilder version more, but the Johnny Depp version IS closer to the book, so it's better in that sense. These two look great

Thank you! I don't think one should take precedence over the other.

I think it's safe to say that they're both special.

Moombeam36 In reply to unicorn-skydancer08 [2011-05-18 03:24:30 +0000 UTC]

Oh indeed, I like them both for different reasons. I like GW's version mostly because Wonka himself seems friendlier and I like his song about pure imagination. But JD's version is closer to the book...and I read the book...and I'm a nerd when it comes to books.

(which is why I have issues with JD Wonka's thing with his father...it wasn't in the book, gosh darn it! >< )

It might have looked better and less girlish if he had a goatee, like in the book.

'Willy Wonka here he is!'

Daaaaaaaw, I love this. :3 Seems like forever since we've seen good ol' Terence and Tumnus together. Hehe, I love how Terence is kinda boasting and Tumnus is either irritated by that or irritated by the outfit.

I love Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka. My favorites are the book and Gene Wilder's version of the movie. I have a very very special place in my heart for that version.

Depp's version....eh it was okay. The Oompa Loompa songs were entertaining, but the film just didn't have the same feel the other one did. Depp's Wonka came off a little err...crazy to me.

But I loved Christopher Lee as his dad.

But anyway, lovely [and funny] picture. Glad to see them again. XD

Ah, it wasn't that long, if you've been keeping up with my deviations. I got about two other pictures of them that I posted just within the last month or two. Check my gallery and see for yourself. As for what Terence and Tumnus are thinking and saying here, that's for you to decide, my friend. I'm gonna let you use your imagination!

I'm thinking of getting that book for my birthday. I've already got the DVD. I got the Tim Burton version with Johnny Depp, and my sister owns the Mel Stuart version with Gene Wilder. I remember seeing Tim Burton's version in theaters with one of my friends shortly before graduating high school. It was a lot better than I expected, and I liked it enough to get the DVD. Unfortunately, I'm the only one in my household who will actually watch it. It's the same with the Narnia movies.

The rest of my family very much prefers Gene Wilder to Johnny Depp. Like I said, I think they're being a bit picky. True, Depp's Wonka is crazier, but that's the whole point. The overall book is supposed to be weird. I think Roald Dahl would have been pleased.

Dragonnerd445 In reply to unicorn-skydancer08 [2011-05-22 05:19:29 +0000 UTC]

! You totally should! The book is so awesome, I loved it when I was little. Along with Matilda.

Lols, aw, really? They all prefer Wilder huh? Well, I guess it depends what you grew up with.

But seriously no one else watches it? Any given reason why? 0-o

And why not on the Narnia films? I've heard you mention they're a bit much for the little ones, but your parents they don't like them either? Wow.

Of course, Roald Dahl was all about weird and crazy stuff, that's what made his books so wonderful.

Lols, yup they are being a tad picky. Show them this song: [link] and I guarantee it'll be stuck in their heads for a long while.

unicorn-skydancer08 In reply to Dragonnerd445 [2011-05-22 14:02:32 +0000 UTC]

They just think the version with Depp is too weird, and they don't like Depp himself in his costume. They like him much better as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Yes, my dad thinks the Narnia films are too violent (if he thinks Narnia is violent, he'll definitely say no to LOTR), and he's simply not a fan of Narnia. He doesn't hate it, but he doesn't think it's anything spectacular, either. My mom likes it, though, to an extent. At any rate, she wanted to join me when I was watching "Prince Caspian", and she allowed me to play "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" on her own DVD player while Dad was at work and the other kids were in school.
