Description
Oh, the bunyip's very badAnd the bunyip's very bold
And they tell me that the bunyip's
Now a thousand years old
So you better come home quickly
And you better hide very soon
Or the bunyip's going to get you
In the bunyip moon
The bunyip's hardly animal
The bunyip's hardly bird
The bunyip makes the strangest sounds
That you have ever heard
So you better come home quickly
And you better hide very soon
Or the bunyip's going to get you
In the bunyip moon
The bunyip's always nasty
And the bunyip's very mean
He's the most unpleasant monster
That you have ever seen
So you better come home quickly
And you better hide very soon
Or the bunyip's going to get you
In the bunyip moon
In the moon
In the moon
In the moon...

Very. I think that would have spooked me as a kid; it kind of spooks me as an adult!

Yeah. The Dot series is a series I remember quite well from my childhood. The one I remember the most though is "Dot and the Bunny", released in 1983.
BTW, excellent work here.

No problem.
The Dot series can be very dramatic at times. But I'm all about drama in movies. Those kinds of movies really reach out to me.

They even end on a rather depressing note.

I'll admit, the ending of the Kangaroo movie almost made me cry. And I never cry at movies.

Yeah. It was a sad ending that she had to leave her. Whereas the ending from Dot and the Bunny was bittersweet. Sad because Dot wasn't able to find the baby kangaroo, and because the rabbit was an orphan. But at least the kangaroo took the bunny in as her own son. What's interesting though is that the song that plays in the closing credits of that film was a Dixieland rendition of the famous song Waltzing Matilda.

I didn't really appreciate how they yanked our chain where the missing joey was concerned. Sure, it might have been more realistic, but I didn't like the way they dragged on the suspense, built up our hopes and then brought them crashing down.

The bunyip's near your TV screen
And now he's in your room
The bunyip ate your parents
Now you're next to meet your doom
So you better come home quickly
And you better hide very soon
Or the bunyip's going to get you
In the bunyip moon.

I can relate. I never saw this movie in my childhood days (didn't even know it existed until about a year ago), but there are plenty of things I saw on TV that gave me the heebie-jeebies. Among the worst was some of the stuff they showed on Sesame Street, which is supposed to be the ultimate kids' show; Humpty Dumpty spooked me, as did the stormcloud from "Here Is Your Life" and Jerry Nelson's face in the Witch's Magic Mirror, but probably the worst of all was "Wet Paint."
It took me years to get over that. I remember watching the show once at a cousin's house, and when "Wet Paint" came on, I literally cowered behind the coffee table the whole time. "Danger's No Stranger" was scary, too, but for some reason I dreaded "Wet Paint" the most.
I can watch it now with no problem, of course, but I remember...

Wowsers. Disney can provide good nightmare fodder, too. My sister used to be scared to death of Maleficent for years.

The Black Cauldron is definitely Disney's darkest animated film, in my opinion, with "Night on Bald Mountain" from Fantasia coming in at a close second.
