Description
Oh, the bunyip's very badAnd the bunyip's very bold
And they tell me that the bunyip's
Now a thousand years old
So you better come home quickly
And you better hide very soon
Or the bunyip's going to get you
In the bunyip moon
The bunyip's hardly animal
The bunyip's hardly bird
The bunyip makes the strangest sounds
That you have ever heard
So you better come home quickly
And you better hide very soon
Or the bunyip's going to get you
In the bunyip moon
The bunyip's always nasty
And the bunyip's very mean
He's the most unpleasant monster
That you have ever seen
So you better come home quickly
And you better hide very soon
Or the bunyip's going to get you
In the bunyip moon
In the moon
In the moon
In the moon...

Well, I've seen things not for children before, of course, since I'm no longer a kid, but still, that was kinda freaky!

Even I noticed. It didn't look so good when I finished it, but after posting it, it somehow stood out to me more.

He doesn't have pupils like that, of course, but I added those in to amp up the scariness.
Especially since you see that he's looking straight at you.

I'd love to be the kind of writer and artist who can make you laugh and cry, fill you to the brim with warm fuzzies and scare the pants off you.

No weirder than other people liking horror stuff.
I actually think it's a good idea that they have something like this; sure, it may be a bit much for small kids, but a lot of shows these days are pretty namby-pamby.

Yeah, especially Disney channel. I remember as a kid the shows were a lot more creative, now they're almost all the same.
Pardon my randomness but have you ever seen Full House, or the Cosby Show? Those are so wonderful.

I think they call those "cookie-cutter shows." And yeah, they're getting to be unimaginative and boring.
I know of those shows, but I only saw a handful of episodes in my lifetime.

Ladies and gentlemen, the recurring nightmare of Australian 80's kids*. I think it's the eerie piano and string music mixed with how the Bunyip never stops growling as long as it's on camera. It's certainly one of the more boogeyman-ish incarnations of the Bunyip.
* And a "lucky" few Americans who had HBO.

And the way it comes directly at the screen, like it's about to come directly into your living room. That's a big scare factor, too.

Everything about a Bunyip is scary. And when you see how scary the regular animals in Australia are, you know Bunyips have to be really fearsome.
Ironically, the animal whose remains may have inspired the Bunyip myth was one of the few mostly harmless critters in Australian prehistory: Diprotodon, the giant wombat: [link]

The bunyip in this movie actually doesn't bother me that much, but I can see how it can be intimidating for small children.
I remember how some Sesame Street characters and segments used to scare the life out of me.

You should hear some of the stories about them. Bunyips in Aborigine myth are more like river monsters than boogeymen. They had complete control over the rivers and billabongs they lurked in.
I heard one story about just how powerful a Bunyip can be: Once, back in the Dreamtime, a group of hunters found a baby Bunyip out near a riverbank. They hogtied it, and brought it to their village to show off. The village elder warned the hunters to return the baby to the river where they found it, but they paid him no heed. That was a foolish thing to do, as the mama Bunyip had seen the hunters take her child. She followed them into the village, and as the men tried to fight her off, she raised the water out of the riverbed and into the village. Every villager who touched the water was turned into a bird and flew away in panic as the Bunyip found her baby and returned home.
