Joy had been overflowing over the recent weeks.
Souci was brimming with happiness at receiving his Son Sebring back from those rouges, and on top of his precious buttercup cubs (buttercubs hehe), his beautiful wife, and wonderful empire; things couldn’t be any better.

Now sat down by the entrance of the nursery as his 3 daughters tackled Seb in a playfight, his warm smile concealed his growing desire to keep things this way forever. Altan might tell him it was naive, especially after the bear attack and these abductions, however he knew even she tried to improve things within camp. No, what Souci was thinking about wasn’t a big change but something a lot more personal that involved a Snowie friend of his.

It had been many many months since he had joined Noct’s group, and still Souci struggled with it. When he was young he had joined to hang out with Nocturne, not because he actually believed any of it - as he was sure the snowie knew. *Well, at least he thought he knew.* Knowing however that the ministry expected him to follow them in their strange traditions did make him more than uncomfortable. He couldn’t keep hiding it from them, from Noct - especially since members were expected to raise their cubs in those beliefs.

The moment came later that day, when Souci spotted Noct and asked for a private friend-to-friend discussion. The cougar mutt did not want to tackle the issue in front of the other members (in particular Joe, she scared him!) so making sure he wasn’t being followed he went out of the camp.

Breaking the news that he wanted to leave the ministry unsurprisingly was met with mixed reactions. It became apparent that Nocturne very much did believe in this Devroop fella, and was worried that something might happen to Souci if he left. Still, Souci implored him to understand that he simply did not share those beliefs. Nocturne thankfully explained that of course he was allowed to leave, but again repeated his warning as rosy tom walked off to clear his head.

That had been… not as bad as he thought? Souci was relieved that he could still show his face in camp - perhaps he could make amends with Noct by making him a flower crown? Then everything would be peachy again! Yes, that sounded like a great plan! Racing off he dived deep into the forest to find what he needed.

Back at camp it became apparent that things did not go as planned.
Instead of a flower crown Souci now had a small scratch on his check, and by what cause but from a bird! Whilst out he had spotted a squirrel and decided to grab it so he could give that as a gift as well. He learnt quickly that he wasn’t the only one who had spotted that squirrel. Souci knew it was not uncommon to have birds and other scavengers try and take someone's prey before the cat could get it back to camp - in fact on any other day he would have laughed it off, saying that the bird clearly needed it more than him. Thinking on it, Souci was pretty sure some scavengers followed him secretly when he was hunting, just because his memory was so bad that he’d likely forget where he stored his prey.

Today was not one for laughing it off though as Souci slithered to the medicine den in hopes that Sara could do something before any of the ministry members could see him; because whilst he knew that it was just a coincidence (he wasn’t even hurt that bad!) he knew they wouldn’t see it that way. Noct definitely wouldn’t that much he was sure about.

What a pickle indeed!
