Toph never saw herself as a mother. She never saw herself a kind, caring, or gentle. She was Toph. She was strong, rough, reckless, and daring. The complete opposite of a mother. She never understood the feeling of being a mother, no matter how many times Katara tried to explain it to her. And she never understood the meaning of "bundle of joy." How can babies be a "bundle of joy" when all they did was cry, poop, and pee all over themselves? How was it possible to give birth to a child and then become eternally happy after all that pain?

But with the little baby in her arms, she finally understood what it meant to be a mother, to feel the happiness, to understand the meaning of "bundle of joy." She would have a little Toph running around the house. She would get to teach her daughter how to earthbend, and eventually metalbend.

And as she kissed the little baby's head with a smile, she made a promise.

"I'll always love you, accept you, be proud of you, and be your mother, my little Lin."

And for once in her life, Toph hated being blind.
