Chapter Eleven

"So, with the accords now in the final stages of deliberation, our top priority is to locate and arrest the rogue Riolu, Jame, before he can strike again," Qwil stated, sitting down at his chair inside the bunker-like safe room.

"Yeah...just so you can execute him, right?" Amelia spat.

"Amelia, he killed our father! He tried to kill all of us!" Arden barked.

"But he was my friend! I can't subscribe to the idea that he'd try and murder us after all he went through to keep me safe! It just doesn't make any sense!"

"What doesn't make SENSE is why you're still trying to DEFEND HIM!" Arden snapped.

"But...h-how do you know it was him?! I-it could have been a-a Ditto or a Zorua or somethi-"

"ENOOOUGH!" Qwil, shouted, snapping everyone to attention. "Prince and Princess Amethyst, I know this has been an extremely traumatic day for you both, but PLEASE try and reserve your argument for a later time, otherwise I'll have to have you both confined to quarters. With gags in your mouths, if necessary."

Both Riolu siblings begrudgingly fell silent.

"Thank you. Now, to the issue at hand. We'll start by sending out delivery Pokémon with wanted flyers for the criminal Riolu," Qwil began, "In addition, I'll b e assigning a number of top exploration teams to search for him directly. However, I'm afraid both Ace and Team Legend are prohibited from engaging him, being that the former may hold an irrational and potentially dangerous grudge against Jame, and the latter, well...no offense, but your most recent mission hasn't been a good mark on your reputations lately."

The four present Team Legend members just shifted around in their seats uncomfortably.

"As for Mr. Spade and Mr. MacGlover, your knowledge about the individual in question will still prove invaluable to his capture, so the two of you are best suited as tactical consultants."

Ace and Ben nodded. "We didn't find anything traceable in the wreckage, by the way," Ace added, "He covered his tracks well. Then again he was once a Jedi like myself, so it doesn't come as too much of a surprise."

"Indeed," Qwil acknowledged, disappointed slightly. "Continue your investigations. We need all the Intel we can gather."

"If...I...may ask a question..." Sandra spoke up, "What ARE you planning to do with Jame once you find him?"

"He'll be sentenced for his crimes, most likely executed. Why?" Qwil inquired, causing Amelia to wince noticeably.

"I mean... I just...isn't that...premature...?" Sandra asked timidly.

"I believe what Sandra is asking is shouldn't Jame at least be given a fair trial first?" Lucar elaborated. "For that matter...what if Princess Amelia is right? What if it really WASN'T Jame who attacked us but in impostor, like Jealousy for example?"

"It is kind of odd..." Carlos noted, "That after all that time of apparently being a good guy he'd just snap like that..."

"I appreciate all your concerns," Qwil sighed, "but regardless, whether or not he actually DID perpetrate today's attack doesn't change the fact that he's still proven himself to be mentally unstable and potentially dangerous. All his innocence would mean is the difference between execution and time in a psychiatric facility." After straightening out his coat, the Quilava dignitary finished, "If there are no further questions, this meeting will once again be adjourned. I hope to see results as soon as possible. Dismissed."
