^^ thank you very much, I love em too, but it's not really done yet (in my eyes)

XD so what's stopping you?

Tearahk In reply to unreal-hunter [2012-03-17 04:19:08 +0000 UTC]

They still look really awesome

How much would it cost to commission a pair?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unreal-hunter In reply to Tearahk [2012-03-17 15:30:28 +0000 UTC]

Well that depends on the material I'll use, and the size.
these are aluminium, which are easier to make, but scratch easily. I could use steel but that'll be much harder for me, and that drives the price up as well.
I'll send you a note with a quote ^^ (don't relly like talking money in my gallery)

unreal-hunter In reply to Archanejil [2012-02-13 14:44:21 +0000 UTC]

aww thanks, not that intricate nowadays. I plan to one day expand on this project, maybe even finish it on a good day

I'm good at starting a project, but a rut with finishing one. I keep finding things to try, and I keep losing time to do it in.

HerrvonSmit In reply to unreal-hunter [2011-12-19 19:26:40 +0000 UTC]

just a question, do you use the armour-archives webstie for making them, or is it completely self designed?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unreal-hunter In reply to HerrvonSmit [2011-12-19 19:40:52 +0000 UTC]

have tried the armour archive, but could only find forward facing plating for gauntlets, and I wanted backwards facing plating. So yeah, designed each bit in cardboard and masking tape, then made then in aluminium plate.

nicely done, I'm trying to find time to make a gauntlet.
but first some casemodding, then some schoolwork, after that....

DoomGalleon In reply to ??? [2011-02-16 16:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Wow that is really cool! Can you hold a knife handle wearing it? It looks like it moves pretty well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unreal-hunter In reply to DoomGalleon [2011-02-17 07:08:01 +0000 UTC]

thanks ^^
yeah, that depends heavily on the knife. The PROP knife in my gallery has a very fat handle, which i did so i could use it whilst wearing the gauntlet, so that I can wield. though any other knife won't work too well.
Weapons are out of the question, they are just too heavy for the limited contact surface the gauntlet gives.
It moves perfect, I took the better half of a year to design it just so that it would.

AllyCatBlu In reply to ??? [2010-11-17 23:30:49 +0000 UTC]

Wow nice work! Are you using a hing system or is each part independent? It reminds me a little of Sauron's glove only more dragon-esk. What gage(American standard) metal is it? It looks a little plain on the back of your hand compared to you fingers... Have you though about splitting it into 2 pieces(for more mobility) and having a third(or more) overlay the seem? Good stuff can not wait to see it more complete!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unreal-hunter In reply to AllyCatBlu [2010-11-17 23:47:16 +0000 UTC]

hehe, thanks. I got fed up with all gauntlet designs having the plating face forward. So I desided to engineer my own system. they are all loose rings, though when worn the tip and the second plate are connected by a string, this keeps the tips from wiggling off my fingers when I flex it.
the gage is about 1,5/32 of an inch (1mm thick)
Currently, I am working to seal up all the gaps and seams on the finger rings. after that I'll make a wrist and upper arm guard, after that I'll decorate both the palm guard and the arm guard with a second layer of 0,5 mm thick plate (0,7/32 of an inch)
(oh, and I wear a black glove underneath it now)

AllyCatBlu In reply to unreal-hunter [2010-11-18 05:06:19 +0000 UTC]

I read about the gloves. I understand about getting fed up with a piece. I work on a couple of different ones so that I always have options. You said you were casting the gaps closed? I solder and weld, I know about casting clay but not metal.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unreal-hunter In reply to AllyCatBlu [2010-11-18 08:33:27 +0000 UTC]

yeah my initial plan was to build a microwave foundry (yes it can be done, with the right crucible) and then use metal casting to fill the gaps and do a decoration at the same time. However, due to me not having an actual workshop with fireproofing and such, I toned my high expectations down a notch and soldered them shut.

oh and for clarity's sake. I did not make gauntlet's with the plates facing forward, I just saw a lot of them. And seriously, I dare anyone to find an older model gauntlet with the plates facing backwards like mine
