Description Noticed a few similarities between German aircraft designs during WWII and later models.


Focke-Achgelis Fa 223 "Drache" -vs- Bell Boeing V-22 "Osprey"
-Both twin rotor 3-blade vertical takeoff aircraft, with rear tail rudder and nose mounted gun, developed by a company partnership

Messerschmitt Me 163 "Komet" -vs- Northrop XP-56 "Black Bullet"
-Both tear drop shaped fuselage designs with swept back wings and rear propulsion, developed by flying wing researchers (Lippisch/Northrop)

Arado Ar 234 "Blitz" -vs- English Electric "Canberra"
-Both early reconnaissance jet bombers with engine nacelles on inner wing, developed for fast high altitude flight

Heinkel He 162 "Volksjäger" -vs- Northrop Grumman RQ-4 "Global Hawk"
-Both streamlined aircraft with dorsal jet engine, swept forward trailing edges, and dihedral tails with twin rudders

Horten Ho 229 "V3" -vs- Northrop Grumman B-2 "Spirit"
-Both all wing designs with fuselage embedded dual engines, drag rudders, and no vertical control surfaces

Messerschmitt P.1101 -vs- Bell X-5
-Both experimental prototypes with single centered jet engines and the first variable-swept wings

Focke-Wulf Ta 183 "Huckebein" -vs- Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 "Fresco"
-Both designs include an axial jet engine, swept wings and elongated vertical stabilizer with elevated horizontal tailplane, developed for high-subsonic air speed with increased armament

Well, Bell actually recieved the P.1101 prototype to be studied.

Those two are the most identical in design.
