Description
I liked the original Laurel Burch-inspired Red Rat doodle over in scraps, and decided to do it in paint, using these acrylic paint markers I picked up on a whim. Obviously metallic gold doesn't scan as well as it looks in real life, but it was still a fun little piece. Go, little rat! Protect the acorn! (What is it with me and small rodents defending their food, anyhow?)Always fun to play with a radically different style now and again...this little guy is acrylic and ink, 5 x 7 on cold press watercolor paper. He is for sale! Prints are available! Visit [link] or send me a note!

What is it with me and small rodents defending their food, anyhow?
'cause that's what they do for the most part... Find Food. Defend Food. oh, yeah, Eat Food!

I didn't read through all of the comments, but I have to say- this style reminds me a lot of the opening scene from Watership Down. The spirals on the cheek make it really adorable.

If I had to choose one, I'd say I like the original more...The coloring and the bold black of the lines just make it look more alive. However, I'm sure this one looks great in real life. Gold would be wonderful...Curse scanners and digital cameras alike. *pouts* Anyway, acrylic markers sound fun and I'm glad that was what you got out of the experience.

Wonderful step away from your normal style. I know how sometimes those can feel refreshing. . I love the aboriginal feel this has.
My mind is also going, "ooh... that would look quite nice as a graffiti character." Sad, no? Everything goes back to graff or skating. Bad brain!

Well, there's an A.C. Moore in the area, and a Michael's, for basic needs, and when I need more esoteric stuff, I trek the twenty miles to Jerry's Artarama.

What is it with rodents protecting their food, you ask? Simple...eh, well I don't know...really though. This picture is really really groovy even while it is nice and simple. Lovely job.
By the way I really love some of the comments you get. The simple, quick ones. They're very amusing..Hehehehehehehh..........That is the best (I mean worst) kind there is!
As always, awesome picture. I love your talent and humor. Great job !!

Rodents protecting their food...it probably has to do with championing the common man and his unending quest to protect what is his from corporate fat-cats and their puppet lawmakers and regulators.
Or am I reading too much into your art?

By the way, where did you come by those acrylic markers you speak of? I am very intrigued.

I love your ability to understand the nuances of other cultures styles and both emulate enough so it is recognizable, but still add your own personal touch that is all your own.
