Watch this Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_Rsdo…and Download these Tools: www.mediafire.com/file/8eu1pm3…
First get your files from steam workshop
For GMod you must subscribe to the mod in order to use GmadExtractor
Use GmadExtractor to open the gma file and extract the folders {SFM has the same folders you just wont use GmadExtractor}
Then load up Noesis and find and select the .mdl file and right click then export
And export as a psk file then run your 3ds max { I have only used 3ds max 2012} then click max script at the top then run script and open ActorXImporter.ms
A window wll pop up and click import psk and import the psk file you extracted from Noesis it may tell you to find the textures or you can skip that
When done loading run the XnaLara Converter.ms script and a window will pop up and click export and export it as model.mesh.ascii
The next thing to do is to convert the textures use VTFEdit.exe find your textures which are located in the materials folder and they will be in a .vtf format
Use VTFEdit.exe to export them into png or tga format
If you have transparent textures just open them in paint.net its a software and click file then save as and save it as a .dds file and
select X8R8G8B8 and it will fix the transparency bug but make sure you reload it in to Paint.net and save it as a .dds file again and then select DXT1
Then send your textures to were your model.mesh.ascii file is and load XNALara and click Modify then Load Genric item then click your model.mesh.ascii file
Now your model should show up. Next is to texture it if you have not already click Modify then martial editor
When done editing textures click Modify then Save genericitem and just click ok and thats it
The only problem I have encountered is the eyes having broken uvs.
This may or may not happen for you but thats the only bug I have had maybe someone can tell me why that happens.
Make sure to share the models you convert for XNALara with everyone else

Excellent and unique method, User! I've been using Wallworm to convert SFM models, and it is a buggy and broken process that ruins most models. I didn't even think of using Noesis with the Unreal plugin!
One important question though, when you use this method with models that have multiple different optional items, for example, different helmets or armor pieces, does the conversion maintain the separate meshes?

It does but you need to export it to xnalara than open it in xnalara and it will be separated.

Can I ask? Can you tell me how I can download Noesis anywhere else? Because It writes me Page 404 when I click on the Noesis Link.

This is great, thanks for the tutorial! I discovered this is an effective way to combine multiple MDL files which are part of the same model, without messing with complicated bone weight combining in 3ds max

So converting models from GMod to XNALara is easier than before? Cool!

Are you trying to export it to xnalara?
If yes than it will work.

It is easily possible to convert MDL (GMod) or SMD to XNALara:
- If it is a MDL file, then use first Crowbar to convert it to SMD
copy all model data files .smd (geometry), all .vmt (Valve Material Type) and all .vtf (Valve Texture Files) in a new folder.
- Open the SMD file with smd2xps and you get directly the XNALara generic_item.mesh.ascii file.

If you can't run xnalara then why do you want to convert a model to xnalara?
Also I made this tutorial so people don't ask me to convert a sfm or gmod model to xnalara.

Thanks. I've tried it, and managed to port a SFM model to XNALara. However, the bones are messed up. Can't even rotate an arm properly

The model may have messed up bones.
Which sfm model are you using?
I want to see if I will have the same results.

Well,I want to try this steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles… but when I open noeisis and check the folder of this I subscribled, they're spit parts and all whites with no textures...

I am not sure about stages. They will be in parts they are only put together in sfm also you would have to manually add the textures.
Try to export it to obj file and move them into the right place then add the textures.
