Description
"Leaving the Fire Nation camp is relatively easy, and I feel the familiar pang of uneasiness that I allowed such a lack of discipline among the guards. Captainβs guilt. As always, I shrug off the shame with the reasoning: if the guards were alert, I would never be able to slip past them to enter the forest..." ~from Avatar: Traitor by ~AriadneArca...usually, when I'm working on a fairly complicated scene, I'll colour it twice; once in what I call my 'emotional' style, where I get the colours worked out and figure out the 'mood' of the piece, and once in a more controlled, less sloppy style. So this piece is a WIP because I probably will be coming back to it with a more detailed background and colouring, but...I really liked the way this one turned out, too!
Ariadnearca's Kameko (far left), my Takumi (far right), and two random firenation soldiers (center) from the 41st division. Kameko's doing her secret traitor thing, and Takumi is busy innocently hustling his fellows out of their extra rations in a game of Po-Tai...but...
...it's interesting, isn't it, that Takumi, who happens to be looking in the direction his errant captain is sneaking off in, hasn't actually noticed Kameko yet?

I love it! I think the way you've done it gives it a very dramatic atmosphere

I like that, an emotional style and a studied style. Once for the feel, twice for the technical detail.
Nice job, and I think I'll take that little tid-bit of idea to heart myself.

...
It's KAMEKO! And she's sneaking off to do her traitor thing! And you can see the guilty look back at the other soldiers... and Takumi's not looking at her... and the darkness around the edges, compared to the warm and friendly light where the soldiers are... and, and, and - oh, it's perfect.
Aaah, I swore I'd go through my deviations inbox methodically! Darn you, sneak previews!
...but the aforementioned sneak previews have made me a very happy person a few minutes early, so I'll forgive them this once.
