Description
commission for =timing2this image is probably the most detailed i made since iΒ΄m into digital painting.lots of the detail would have been impossible without =charfade Β΄s excellent leaves and veggie brushpack [link]
this took me many hours to finish- and i could keep on painting... i would like to know by myself whats inside that hollow log and which way the group of adventurers is going to take...

You did a fantastic job on this commission. There's so much detail, I could stare at it endlessly, picking out small things here and there. The mood of the piece - dark, dreary, and forbidding - is just what I was looking for. I'm glad to hear you had fun while working on it. I certainly had fun watching it progress from sketch to finished product! Thanks again and I hope to commission you again one day.

This is just too cool! I love the feel of this one. Dark gloomy woods and just the lanterns dim lights. And the details on the people and forest are just amazing. My favorite of yours so far!

That's very cook, Vaghauk, extremely evocative. I love how tiny they look, it makes me lean in to see what other things are hidden in the details.
I wonder if you could benefit from more intermediate values? It seems like you're going straight from highly saturated lights to black, making it look a little like a painting on black velvet.
The foreground (the area bottom centre) looks strangely 2D, somehow. I imagine it's hard to keep lighting consistent with such a riot of detail. Consider that the fallen log looks like it's reflecting moonlight highlights, but that moonlight doesn't affect many other objects (such as the large tree, center left, or the areas of flattish ground, like the bumpy trail). The fir tree boughs in the top right are really beautiful.
I wonder if the adventurers should be associated with more contrast - they've got the bright light sources, so they could be casting dark shadows to go along with them.
One thing about leaves and blades of grass is that they all point at different angles, so with strong light sources you will get some that are brightly reflective, with others that are dark, all mixed in together. After spraying down some leaf textures (bushes, grass) perhaps you can go in and pick out some brighter ones manually.
How big is that owl? It looks like it's about man-sized, given where the tree it's on is sitting.
I just found the snail! What fun!

hehe- thanks alot for the crit michael!! the darkness/light factor was indeed difficult to manage... i learned alot on this one. i actually painted a lot of highlights/shadows on the leaves and grasses- its probably not that visible in the resolution of this file.the original is about double size.-- hehe- and the owl is supposed to be an giant owl indeed! but she is probably not hungry at the moment...

How long did it take you? I'm guessing longer than most of your other pieces.

Excellent piece. This is my favorite sort of fantasy work where behind the art a story is surely flowing. I hope they take the log, it's probably a short cut, and ofcourse would not be hiding any lurkers in the dark.
