Description --::Accessing United Nations Department of Emergency Response, Xenoform Database Alpha Kai, Registered Kaiju::--

Classification: Ultraspecies, Leviathan Class

Callsign: L-1

Common Name: Raygar

First Seen: Cape Fear Basin, North Carolina, USA
Last Seen: Location of Remains Unknown

Primary Range: Unknown, Benthic Biomes Theorized

Dietary Preference: Thermal, Electrical Energy

Official Description: The first kaiju encountered in a post Ganuuk world, the subject dubbed 'Raygar' is mostly remembered by its other title, the first recorded kaiju to be killed. Subject displays anatomical features typical of the Leviathan subtype, with amphibious respiration systems, bioluminescence and a highly streamlined body plan, and likely was an accomplished predator in its own native benthic ecosystem. The body bears some resemblance to prehistoric cetaceans, albeit with a body plan moreso resembling the non-avian theropod dinosaurs. With strong jaws, a hook-like tail and immense shoulder fins that served as a sort of bellows-like propulsion system, it is assumed Raygar was a highly mobile creature in water, and would have relied on speed over brute force.

That said, the best we can truly offer is guesswork and study via its corpse, ((LOCATION REDACTED)) as it met its demise very shortly after making landfall on the Atlantic Coast of the United States, and its death led to the subsequent creation of the biohazard known as 'The Grove', which is still being managed and contained to this day. ((A cautionary tale if there ever was one))

Defense Protocols: Given the Subject's demise, tactics pertaining to combating it are not a priority.

Noteworthy Abilities:

-Pressure Cannon: Briefly observed during combat with Umbara, Raygar was capable of gorging itself on seawater, and using it both to propel itself forward or to launch out an immense stream of pressurized water orally, of near freezing to near boiling temperatures, and can cause surprising amounts of damage to the immediate area.

-Bio-Napalm: Observed via autopsy. Raygar's bioluminescent organs also produce a sort of viscous, acidic substance similar to a glowing napalm, which can cling to flesh and inorganic material and cause a lot of long-term damage, it took weeks to finally dilute what spread into the Cape Fear area enough to safely remove it.

Behavioral Observations:

-
Subject was only observed in life very briefly, and was exterminated by a combined assault from the kaiju Umbara and the United States Armed Forces. Most studies of it are via autopsy.

EDITORIAL:
After Ganuuk's  rampage cost three countries, superpowers at that, nearly irreparable harm, a lot of effort went into making sure we would never be caught so unprepared again. A massive observation and containment facility was placed overtop the bear monster's resting place, under the guise of being a meteorological observation platform. The military began investing money at a level that far outshone Pre-UNOS budgetary margins, creating horrifying weapons of extermination to deal with a new kind of tactical threat. And for the young here, no, that does not include the giant robots. Those came later when the technology of the time improved. These were more tactically sound, distance based weapons. But ultimately, we were still arrogant, and there was still another very humbling lesson waiting for us.

The year was 2053, nine years after the great white north. And the story revolves around a good friend of mine, one you may not be aware of unless you really paid attention from the very beginning, like I have. Her name is Allison Gaither, a geneticist now leading the scientific development branch of the United Nations. But I knew her when she was much pluckier and less strained by the wear of the world. She was working for a titan of the Post-UNOS world, ArdenTech, a company that dabbled in a little bit of everything and probably dabbled a bit too deep. They were famous for funding projects most found impossible, using science to achieve inventions and dream-like revolutions that were going to frontline the future. In her case, her project was a big one. She had presented a very promising thesis in grad school, proposing a very viable means of achieving human cellular regeneration. And Arden had hired her immediately and given her ample funds to achieve this. The actual attempts at getting it to work, however, those were a little more complex than anticipated. That was when we met, but that's a story for its own time and place.

Shorthand version, she was struggling, and it was getting harder to justify Arden continuing to fund her project. Then the military contacted the company, requesting her specifically. She initially refused, she had explicitly stated in contract her work was not going into military R&D, but they had something else to state. There had been an accident. An old, thought to be abandoned oil rig, a relic of another age, had been knocked completely over, its support beams broken by what they assumed was an immense amount of blunt force, and was floating in the Atlantic. Apparently a group of expats had developed a colony of sorts there, a self-sustaining one that had been operating for years, but there were no survivors. But there was an odd biomass, described as a mix of algae, blood and napalm, and under a microscope it was showing extremely concerning things. The cells were regenerating themselves, in a manner Doctor Gaither would confirm was exactly what she was hoping to accomplish. Down to the last organelle. The implications were concerning to all involved, and she agreed to be flown out and take a closer look.

But on arrival, in their last stop in the city of Wilmington before flying out to the rig, they were interrupted. That biomass was spreading, like a malignant red tide, and approaching shore. As for what happened next, well you know what you're reading.

That night, Doctor Gaither would witness the first recorded battle between two kaiju. The first to come ashore, Raygar, was wounded, bleeding profusely and attempting to flee inland. The second, a much larger one, was relentless in it's pursuit. Umbara, the father of fiends. Their battle was unfortunately one-sided, and very short, as multiple military strikes happened within minutes, firebombing the pair into a bloody pulp. Raygar, in spite of it's best attempts, did not survive, and collapsed into an inert bloody pile. Umbara fled back into the sea, robbed of it's spoils, but we would see it again very soon. Doctor Gaither came out of it battered and bloody herself, having sustained minor burns and a slight loss of hearing in one ear, but her troubles were going to get a lot worse. That bloody mass, Raygar's blood, had seeped into the Cape Fear river, and had begun 'effecting' the surrounding flora and fauna. And the military needed a scapegoat for it's blunders. A scapegoat studying the exact phenomenon that was now creating body horror nightmares. And so she spent several months in government custody, cut off from the outside world while her name was dragged through the mud, coals and every other staining surface. But help was on the way. In fact, it was right UNDER her nose...

---------------------------------------------

-Hello again! I've actually had this piece ready for a couple months now, but as mentioned before, my schedule's only really allowing me to sit down and really grind out the narrative requirements for it now.

Raygar is an old design I've had on the backburner for a good, long while. You might remember he was the very first Fathom kaiju I uploaded way back about 5 years ago, back when this was a very different story. But in my efforts this past year to consolidate my past projects and not wanting to waste anything I've already made, he felt like an appropriate starting point for the main story, and the main instigating incident that made this world go from a place that experienced ONE kaiju attack to several a year. Kaiju cells are pretty nasty in this setting, and you'll see exactly what that means soon. But until then, hope you enjoy those holidays, or at the very least survive them unscathed. Stay safe and I'll see you next time!

I can imagine Raygar's last thoughts upon being hunted by another kaiju AND blown up by the US military amounted to something along the lines of "I guess I'll die".

I can definitely tell you had a ton of fun with it. Did you get my note response btw, if I may ask?
