Description Name: Perseus

Factions: Hero Program, Sernak's Army

Alignment: Neutral Good

Rank: 5

Height: 70 meters

Weight: 45,000 tons

Powers:

Stone Cold: Perseus, a Hyperborean golem, bears the inorganic nature a being of such station. Immune to disease, fatigue, intense heat, cold and pressure, he is a versatile fighter capable of all-terrain combat.

Gorgon's Eye: A product of an early conquest, Perseus has a large Atlantean gemstone armed with magitechnical properties, namely the ability to petrify an opponent.

Muuian Technology: Due to Hyperborea's need of more powerful arms, Perseus was outfitted with the highly advanced Muuian people's weapons, namely highly powered metal blades and a mechanical scout pod dubbed 'Bubo.' this also removed the need for solar energy.

Weaknesses:

No Regeneration: Being a being of stone, Perseus is not capable of recovering from wounds. This forced the hero golems to rely more on their heroism and smarts.

Aquatic Hindrance: While capable of fighting underwater, his movement speed is significantly slower.

Personality:

-(Ancient) As the first and at the time most powerful Hyperborean weapon, Perseus could best be classified as proud. His strength was known by all, and he could back up his big words. This bravado made him a little naive to the manipulation at the hands of the higher-ups, to which he was nothing but a powerful pawn.

-(Modern) A shell of his normal self, Perseus has lost all sense of former bravado. Now aware of the manipulations of his makers, he has staked himself as much more humble and streetwise. That, and he knows he is not strong enough to talk like he used to.

History:

Hyperborea, a world long left to the obscurities of Greek myth, was in truth a hustle and bustle society of its own home to many trials of its own. The TAMO model of golem, built by years of study, kept the peace of the city from the many monsters from what are now known as Earth Hollows at bay. But, when fellow power empire Atlantis began to grow to close for comfort, small skirmishes began between the two, mostly over borders and other routine things. Over time though, things escalated when the Atlantians began sending their larger guardians such as the cattle herding Orthrus to engage them. It proved overwhelming for a time, for the primitive golems clunky bodies could not keep up with the speedier living monsters.

Thus, the series of stalemates gradually became a series of losses. Hyperborea needed something to flip the escalation
in their favor, and they found it from an unlikely source. It was long known that the technologically advanced Muuian society would take and improve weaponry for a price, and with everything to lose they embarked. The Muuians, new to their stone-smithing golem technology, were up to the challenge, and told them the plan. They needed two things, a powerful energy source, but also a willing candidate to obtain it.

That came in the form of a young upstart Hyperborean soldier named Perseus. Well known for his overly heroic exploits in battle with the Atlanteans, he seemed the perfect candidate. He was approached by a Hyperborean general and a pale (as per the norm) Muuian scientist. The two began by fluffing the young testosterone fueled hero's ego and and talking about a secret mission that 'only a man of HIS caliber could do,' hoping that would pressure him into not being able to refuse. They didn't have to go to the effort.

Perseus, feeling as overconfident as ever, was ordered on a one man mission into the lair of one of the Atlantean's most feared creations, the serpentine Gorgons. They were vicious, venomous, and capable of turning people into statues, a prospect Hyperborea wished to study for military purposes. He was given a set of reflective armor and sent on his way quietly. He approached the supposed lair, a hidden cave near the Strait of Gibraltr, and silently made his way inside. The Gorgons, with the ability to sense vibrations, took notice and attempted to stalk the glory hog, to no avail. Perseus made his way through the cavernous complex, a massive corpse pile building itself up. What surprised him about this, though, was that he had looked them in the eyes plenty of times, but the myths about petrification were not truthful at all. Then he arrived at the center of the caverns, a massive chamber with a small skylight casting one pillar of relief, and discovered the true nature of the myths. A massive stone head, an idol of one of their kind, jutted to massive heights, with a giant yellow gem embedded in one of the eyes that had a group of petrified men and women standing in front of it with terrified, pained expressions on their cast faces. This was his target.

Perseus silently walked among the group of long deceased people, the only sound being that of his own footsteps, slowly making his way to the totem. The silence was unnerving compared to the Gorgon attacks from before, in fact it was. . .TOO quiet. Then, as he got to where he could touch the colossus, he heard a fateful noise, the sound of rattling. Perseus turned just in time to block an incoming tail swipe, which knocked the proud man several feet into the air, crashing down on a petrified statue, which proved brittle and crumbled under his weight. Rolling to his feet, Perseus whispered a small apology to the stone, and charged his assailant with sword in hand. Then he realized the assailant was gone into the darkness and that he was standing in the blinding skylight, which severely limited what he could see.

The mysterious gorgon could be heard rattling in the darkness, but Perseus wasn't about to give her his position. He quickly ducked down into the darkness, shambling his way to a stone pillar, but he didn't get far before he was attacked by the guard of the chamber, a Medusa that was not about to let their sacred gem be taken. Perseus charged, his reflective helmet visor removing the risk of her deadliest weapon, the paralysis gaze. The two engaged one another for a time, the Medusa's superior strength and tail proving effective roadblocks to his sharp obsidian sword and keen instincts. He knew she was trying to tire him out, but he wasn't about to let that go down.

Taking off his helmet, he looked the gorgon in the eye and turned and ran into the sea of statues. He hurriedly put his helmet on, and collapsed to the ground, remaining as still as possible. The Medusa was confused at this, she couldn't recall using her paralyzing ray, but she was concentrating on battle so it was possible. She sought out the man who had lasted longer than any other intruder, and made her way to the seemingly paralyzed man. What she got, though, was a sword slash to the neck.

Perseus had killed the Medusa guard, and made his way to the gemstone by climbing the massive face. He made his way to the top, but there he made a callous mistake by looking the gem in the eye. He realized immediately, the Medusa may have been able to paralyze, not petrify, but this sacred gem was the legit deal. He fell a staggering twenty feet to the ground, landing on his back, hard.

He wasn't even aware that he would wake up, but wake up he did. He came to in a large white room, lights pouring down on his face.

"It's awake! Chief, it's awake!"

He looked to his right and saw a small man staring excitedly into his eyes. But, unless he was seeing things, the man was only inches tall. He bolted upright, beholding the horrible truth, he had indeed been turned to stone, but not in the way he imagined. He was a golem, and a big one

A pale man, the same Muuian scientist from before as he recalled, came forward and asked about his memories. Perseus spoke out with a droning voice of stone and chrome, but the articulation was awkward. The scientist told him that his actions allowed them to move in behind him retrieve the gem and himself, who was teetering on the edge of life due to partial petrification and spinal damage. Utilizing Muuian technology, they utilized his armor as the model for the massive war golem, the first of what would later be called the Hyperborean 'Hero Project.'

Perseus spent a short time training at Muu, getting used to his new body and allowing them to study the integrity of their technology. He had been outfitted with a pair of metallic clasping fingers similar to the Tamo guards stone ones, and his other arm bore a net launcher to capture opposing monsters. His abdomen had the same gorgon gem outfitted into it, which, when charged with solar energy, could petrify opponents, a venture the Hyperboreans saw as an opportunity to expand their masonry possibilities. Perseus at first was apprehensive to the idea of being no longer 'human' but he realized he would have died without this so he decided to utilize his new take on life, and soon his bravado returned.

The time then came for him to appear at the Hyperborean front. As he walked out caught a brief glimpse of the scientists working on something inside of a massive tank. He paid it little mind, though, and returned to his home with a figurative spring in his step.

The war had been a slow progression of the Atlanteans up to that point, but that changed when Perseus arrived. The first of his kind of golem, he utilized his heroism and superior technology to dominate the battlefield, often turning the soldiers and kaiju to stone that would later be turned against them with their technology. This put the numbers and morale back on their side.

While he was fighting outside one day, the Atlanteans sent one of their most powerful weapons, the dreadnought Cetus, into their city from the river, and inflicted major destruction that would inspire the people to later construct the defending golem Argos. Perseus returned to the city to find hundreds of people, mainly women and children, dead in flooded streets. He went to the general that had originally sent him after the gorgons, who was infuriated at 'those two-timing paleskins.' He refused to explain what he meant, telling Perseus to do what he was built for and go to the field. Anger boiling from the events, he simply replied 'I'll do just that. . ' and silently departed.

Perseus then acted on his own and attacked an Atlantean outpost far behind enemy lines. He demanded they tell him where the monster called Cetus was, and the soldiers, stationed there hoping to avoid fighting, told him the beast had been penned in the far South Seas, away from Atlantis and Hyperborea due to its destructive nature.

Perseus spent years going after the beast, eventually arriving at its resting place off the coast of New Guinea. Standing atop a high cliff overlooking the sea, and called out to the beast in a bellowing warcry. Cetus answered with a thundering roar and a pounding from under the seas.

Perseus jumped down to the sea to attack the monster at its most vulnerable, and found a massive gate carved into the cliffside, which he then opened. What he saw astounded him. Trying to petrify the beast, he was astounded to find the beast outfitted with the iconic glowing technology of none other than the Muuians.

The Muuians had been working for both sides! This changed everything! But, in his shock, he was not prepared for the jaws that ripped his right arm clean off. Feeling his consciousness slip from him as he slipped into the seas, his movement slowing and fading into blackness. . .

------------------Present Day------------

Sernak awoke on the small atoll where he had been sleeping, casually eyeing the new day and what it would bring him.

He had emerged from the Muuian ruins and ventured a short distance out into Indonesia, though he longed to travel farther. The problem was, he just wasn't sure about leaving the city without knowing who all was left in it. He had found his old partners Gibsly, Secenscion, and Fueranin, as well as the two weapons Gladion and Ronis, but he knew there were a lot more beings on Muu when the Stirring occurred. And a lot of them were quite savage even without the insanity.

He stood up, eyeing a small collection of stormclouds to the south, when he heard the fluttering of wings.

"What did you see to the South?" he asked.

"You might be surprised."

Fuera and Sernak eyed each other, his curiosity piqued.

"Surprise me, then."

"Well, I saw a large group of. . . beasts much like ourselves. They were wading through an atoll to the south. Looking for something, from the look of it. A group of people were following them."

That made him even more curious. "People? The ones from Muu that woke us up?"

The bird shook her head and shrugged. "Not that I saw. I noticed a woman with red hair, but the other's . . . I can't say for sure."

If Sernak was capable of smiling, he would have. "Well, looks like I know where I'm going. Get the other's attention. We're headin' south."

----------------------------

"Muu exists? Really?"

Dr. Lerna was surprisingly excited at the prospect, so much so it made Paul a little uncomfortable. They had picked him up in their small rented boat after he had split up from the rest of the team that discovered Muu. Noelle had gone back to Japan to report their findings, and Frank had gone back to Australia to find some things he had heard about. That left him here, he had resolved to find the mysterious arena he and Frank escaped from, he owed the giant ant his life and intended to return the favor. Sernak seemed unwilling, but sights of a group of people on the tails of a band of a dozen or so giant monsters seemed like good odds. The people were surprisingly pleasant if not a little eccentric. A few of them knew of his exploits with Giganuuk so he at least had something to talk about.

But when he revealed his intentions about finding the extension of Muu's city where the arena was, and Dr. Lerna and others were intrigued about the possibility alone. The problem was, he did not know its location. He had been unconscious most of the trip there the first time. That was going to be a problem. But things began to move in motion when Azurex suddenly turned suddenly, sensing a new presence amazingly close. Paul looked in the same direction the lizard was looking, and noticed a familiar shadow in the skies.

"Huh? He's keeping an eye on us. Didn't expect that, but it might make things easier. . ." Paul mused to himself. Dr. Lerna overheard a little and asked if he knew about the giant raven-like form, and he told her they might be receiving a little help soon.

The crew then found itself waiting on a small chain of islands, Hydra had stopped to rest for the day and the trail she was pursuing had seemingly gone cold. The people decided to wait, Paul even decided to take a small swim in the shallow seas. He noticed an abundance of kelp, and decided to take a risk and swim to see what was at the bottom. What he found was a massive pile of stones, too symmetrical to be normal. He prepared to come to the surface, but a giant spire like orange leg suddenly jutted down into the atoll, a leg Paul recognized. He surfaced to familiar faces.

-------------------------

Sernak eyed the small group of people with curiosity, but his eyes were a little more attached to the eyes of the monster group that were not ceasing to stare him down. Most looked at him with eyes of aggressive glee, in particular a giant green reptile, but even stranger was a giant many headed serpent that seemed a little on edge with his presence. He then heard a familiar call.

"I thought you were going to see the world, big guy!" Paul yelled out, an edge of humor in voice. Sernak squinted with his good eye. "South is part of the world, isn't it?" A similar tone creeping in himself.

The group of people all eyed the croc, surprised at his speech ability, and fluency, but even more surprising was when he clutched at his staff, his face completely changing expression. A blue light spread over the water, and a massive form emerged from the depths of the atoll, what appeared, to Dr. Lerna, to be a giant version of Tamotahn.

The golem turned to face the crocodile, his blue eyepiece silently peering through a layer of silt, a raiment of kelp hanging down his right side. The golem turned his head to the group of kaiju, settling on Hydra. He then surprised them all with-

"Atlanteans?"

The group, Sernak included, collectively gasped. The golem pointed his bladed left arm at Hydra, grimly asking, "Where is Cetus, you spawn of the serpent?"

At this Hydra's heads all jerked in surprise. Cetus was a name she knew, though she had never met her sibling before or heard her parents mention him. Sernak put his staff in between the serpent and statue, simply stating that he knew the name.

"Cetus. He was one of the projects happening after I was completed."

"You're from Muu?" Perseus asked, rage slowly building.

"Not proud of it, but yes. Why do you need to know about Muu? You look Hyperborean."

This stunned the giant, causing him to look down and behold his now calcified form. Muuian tech had kept his blades rust free, but the rest of him had clearly felt the effects of millennia of salt water. He was silent for a moment, and then, with a small tone of desperation, said"How long have I been. . ." He began to shake, pieces of seafloor of various sizes dropping into the atoll. Sernak then surprised the golem by patting his back. "Its a whole new world, my friend. We all have to learn to live in it. Though, if you've a bone to pick with Muu we have something in common." He looked down at Paul, who was staring up at him from the beach. "And I think I know where we can find what's left of them."

-----------------------------------

The sun began to set over the tropic paradise as the caravan of kaiju trudged on across the shallow seas. Sernak lead on with Perseus and Hydra behind him, the members of Sernak's band mingling with the Tyrant Squad. Eventually, he had them stop at a drop-off, where he asked Secenscion to dive down and take a look. Secenscion and Shairka, who found the squid strange in a good way, returned a few minutes later, 'nodding' in the best way a squid could, and he then turned to the group.

"The Arena, where Muu's last survivors are, is below us. I have no idea what we'll run into, but from what Paul described, its not pretty. Hopefully. . . " looking at Hydra and Perseus, who were keeping respective distance from one another, "You'll find what you're looking for."

----------------------------------------

The team, what ones could swim, made their way down, Paul himself rode along with the rest of the people inside of an air bubble, courtesy of Secenscion, They arrived in the arena, which was lit but silent, and they attempted to find traces of people. Paul tried to find the giant ant in the monster barracks he had been served as food in before, but for some reason Quana was not in her enclosure. She was chained to a wall, evidently tortured. Paul tried to free the ant, but in the chaos he was caught by the Praetorian-esque guards and brought before the 'emperor' of the Arena, Odyzeus, who had sentenced him to death before. He was prepared to kill Paul himself, but a sudden explosion rocked the arena to the foundations. Sernak and Perseus had broken the bubble keeping the sea out, and water was beginning to pour in.

Paul took advantage of the confusion and slipped out, determined to free the monster he owed his life to.

Odyzeus turned to his prime minister, and in a raging voice, yelled out a fateful command. . .

"RELEASE CETUS!!"

-------------------------------------------------------------

And that's all for now.

Its been a while since I did anything for KAS. I had this image of Perseus done some time ago, but decided to try another approach, but in the end I didn't like how it looked and decided to stick with the first one. Perseus is the first of the hero program of Hyperborea to appear in the group, and I think that works best, considering that Perseus is the 'first' mythical Greek hero. I decided to take it in my own direction where Hyperborea made a deal with Muu to build a better mousetrap, so to speak.

I tried to honor the myths, but I also wanted a good chunk of 'Crim fashion' into it as well by adding some modern day fun.

Well, that's all I can think of at this point, so I'll say good night.

Oooh, me likie. I love that Clash of the Titans reference there. I want to design Cetus now, I just need the permission to do so and I'll be ready to roll.

Thanks, though I've already slated to do Cetus myself, and I've already started working on him, so sorry to say but he's taken.

Oh, that's too bad. What exactly is he planned to look like, though? If you don't have his design pinned down yet, my apewhale (in my gallery) could be useful as inspiration.

That's not too far off, just a few Clash of the titans odds and ends combined with some bits of technology added on to make him look suitably Muuian.

I'll keep your look in mind, though, I'll even mention him when I post him.

This is pretty darn awesome all around. I love the design of him, I love the story behind him (the more proper myth mixed with The Clash of the Titans references mixed again with the KAS verses own myth made me a pretty damn happy panda) and the double dealing of Muu makes for some nice additions to the KAS story.

Well, this is just plain fantastic. Throws a few curve balls at my ideas for the Hyperborean heroes, but in a good way. Perseus's design is excellently executed, and the story manages to juggle all the different characters well while also highlighting Mu's involvement in the conflict. This really develops things well.

And the Clash of the Titans homages are of course awesome. Excellent work!

Glad you think so, I'm quite fond of the 'curveball' feeling myself, its one of the best parts of KAS, having to find ways to adapt to the ideas of others while still holding your own.

Anyway, I'm glad I could spark things off for the Hero Program, now I just need to draw a take on Cetus I like.

Nice. Its good that Muu is being expanded on, and that Hyperborea is being treated more evenly with Atlantis. I kind of thought Atlantis was suppossed to be the "bad guys" at first though. It will be interesting to see Cetus and the other monsters you've mentioned in this entry.

Thanks, and the way I see it, war has good and bad on both sides. Writer's convenience dictates that Atlantis is the worse for it because they met a watery grave for whatever reason, but they're all dead now so. . . no one really could say.

You did good man, you did good. Nice to see some stuff from Hyperborea's side this time too. Cetus should be...interesting lol. I like the various homages this entry has, Bubo is going to get a lot of approval . Kinda interesting how the kelp is like a half cape or something.

Cetus will take a while to do, but I have a pretty good image in my head, just you wait and see.

After all the drama with Atlantis, I figured I'd give Hyperborea a little humanity as well so they wouldn't just be the 'villainous' forces the others have. Tamotahn plays against that already, but I figured people could see a dose of heroism on the other side too, such is the nature of war after all.

I inspired the kelp cape from a lot of paintings of Perseus I had seen, for some reason a lot of them had a sort of half cape. Completely baffles me as to why, but I liked the way it looked.

Yeah, Bubo was thrown in purely for the obvious. I need to get him drawn soon too, I imagine him being well received.

Yeah, we all kinda anticipated the 'monsters are evil' card so its like we all jumped on the monster side of the story. Truthfully things were simmering down until Typhoon went all Sky.net on everyone. I'm sure there was bad blood and heroism on both sides though Atlantis came out looking worse in the legends, what with it sinking and all. Though I still vouch for Bellerophon being an uppity douche as he eventually became in mythology. Kid started modest but then got really...REALLy full of himself. Opposite of Perseus really. Anyway, awesome of you to give us a formal starting point for the Hero Project entries. I might take responsibility of submitting Bellerophon before going on Hiatus.
