Finally doing some realistic art... Used a very common pic of Cloud for reference. I'm a weird painter
I usually start from the eyes, then outwards around the face, the lips and lastly, the nose. I hate painting noses. And his skin is giving me a hard time. Months of not practising has caught up with me;_;

Oh ?... So thats how You did it ( I've seen the finished deviation already ). You may want to consider doing tutorials because just by looking at this step-by-step mode, I feel a little more confident at making more fanart of Cloud and similar-looking characters. Whether You do tutorials or not is Your decision but if You do, I would like to know. Otherwise I can just look and learn.
P.S I think I speak for many people when I say I also hate drawing Noses.

I tend to do the skin, hiar then clothes. I always leave the eyes last becasue I was told that the eyes are the soul to the painting and by drawing them first it can change your view/style the way you work. But that's my way. You use Painter, don't you? or is it Open Canvas?

O.O Never heard of that eye thing. I have a crazy obsession with eyes, so I always do the eyes firstXD I'm a Photoshop person actually^^ Mostly because the many options and new shortcuts in Painter scare me

Lol yeah, it's possible to get paint-like effects in Photoshop, and not needing to use a custom brush too^^ Just switch to the hard-edged brush at 10-20% opacity and try not to over-use the soft-edged airbrush. It takes some time to get used to painting with hard-edged brushes

I'm terrible with hard edged brushes, I tend to use soft with an airspray then erase witha hard to tak any bits of...gah i suck T.T

eyes are the most striking and most noticable facial feature, it's good to pay lots attention to them ^^ heheh you could probably fill a canvas with eyes alone (definitely will look gorgeous, canvas filled with eyes you've drawn)
