Description "Behind the Mask" is sung by Jose Feliciano as the theme song for the TV show Queen of Swords, a fun female-Zorro adventure set in 1817, about 100 years before the Wonder Woman movie. It was all too short-lived at only one season of 22 episodes.

The lyrics are so appropriate for superheroines in general that I wanted to post them along with links to two YouTube versions of the song, some episodes currently available on YouTube, and my latest search results looking for DVDs of the entire series. It has been so long ago since my taste of high-school Spanish that I do not know for sure if there are any mistakes in the Spanish lyrics.

This is my way of honoring the heroines who came before the Wonder Woman movie. They deserve a second chance to have their day in the sun.

Lyrics version, no scenes from the show:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d3S90…

Show scenes version, almost like a trailer:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2uv3_…

Here is a YouTube link to some episodes of the show, for as long as YouTube allows them to remain:

Wikipedia has links to for the first eight episodes to a synopsis for each one, especially helpful because the Episode 2 video on YouTube is missing the ending.

For those interested in DVDs of Queen of Swords, I will list my search results as of July 2, 2017. Sadly, the only site I can vouch for currently is Amazon, but if I make a purchase from any of the following links, I will report back with the results.

Amazon (but it's non-US format in French)

"Behind the Mask"

Hey, Hey
Behind the Mask, there's a secret life
Behind the Mask, there's a hero's eyes
Beauty can be a disguise
Hiding a warrior inside
Behind the Mask, uh oh uh oh
Behind the Mask, uh oh uh oh

Passion burns hot through her gypsy soul as she takes control
Of her private war which is won through the edge of a sword

Behind the Mask, there's a secret life
Behind the Mask, there's a hero's eyes
Beauty can be a disguise
Hiding a warrior inside
Behind the Mask, uh oh uh oh
Behind the Mask, uh oh uh oh

She fights for the weak with her will of steel making her dreams real
But she must deceive to get to her true destiny

Ah yeah, oye me bien
Ella lucho con todo con mucho valor
Every one of us has in our own way
Our mask may not be seen, but it's there just the same

Ella pelea por los derechos de todos

Behind the Mask, there's a secret life
Behind the Mask, there's a hero's eyes
Everyone wears a disguise
We've all got secrets to hide
Behind the Mask, uh oh uh oh
Behind the Mask, uh oh uh oh

Oye me te digo, mira detras de cada careta

Ah, badeba ah um um hey hey

Thanks! I wholeheartedly agree. Don't forget to listen to Jose Feliciano sing it at one of the links above, such as this one that is almost like a trailer:

It's a good up-tempo Latin tune with Jose bringing passion to the lyrics.

Aww, thank you! It comes from learning to Role Play first in MMOs where all you could do is type your emotes. And when I see the smiley faces here, they are so small on my screen, I can't tell what they mean. So I choose to type it all out and make sure my meaning is clear. *winks and smiles*

I don't know what an MMO is, but like you, I write the word "smiling" rather than "lol."  I don't ever use emojis.  I don't find them useful for communication.  Emojis are a paltry shortcut for vivid prose.  *I smile and nod in agreement*
DO you look like you avi pic?  Yeah, I know I know, why should it matter?  Well, because from the first few hours of birth we humans focus on faces.  It is the initial, and on-going, source of information about others.  Thus, my curiosity.  But of course I respect the anonymity you stress on your page.  So no big deal.

By saying MMO, I actually meant MMORPG, or a Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing Game. They are online games such as World of Warcraft or the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic online game from BioWare.

I agree that prose communicates the most vividly. *nods and gives a thumbs up*

And I appreciate your interest in my appearance, but I am afraid you already know my thoughts on this. I made my character according to my ideal of how I would want a heroine to look, and I do have dark hair rather than being a blonde or redhead. You could say it is an idealized version of reality, but as I said on my page, confessing my age would not be shocking because of my youthfulness but because of my antiquity.

I am well beyond the years when most would be willing to post selfies and such online. I offer to people what I can of my intellect and imagination rather than images of a pretty face in Real Life.  I know that is weird. If I were younger or in different life circumstances, I could perhaps feel comfortable to do more. I am at a point where if someone wishes to share in sexy thoughts and imaginations in Role Play, that is the best I can offer rather than giving people a false hope of anything developing in Real Life.

Believe me, it is sad for me too, and I wish I could have more hope for a relationship in the real world. I tried twice in Second Life to develop an online relationship into a Real Life relationship and both times it ended badly. I have learned my lesson and refuse to expose any of my real heart to real pain anymore. Or at least I would rather be rejected up front due to my being secretive rather than knowing I was rejected after letting my guard down and sharing real life information, at which point I know for a fact the rejection is aimed at me personally because of how I look or whatever. *shrugs shoulders and smiles*

Profound wisdom mixed with pathos.  A strong evocation of emotions.  Heartbreak is brutal to endure.  I hope you've recovered.
I don't play SL or MMO or other on-line quasi-live games.  Just never got into it.  I can see how strong relationships can develop, however.  As you know, these relationships are virtual and the virtual is not the real.
I do like simple chat, though.  If I can find an intelligent and sensual partner, which is rare.

I did a quick search and she looks very sexy with the mask and full costume.

Yes indeed! She is worthy of a good treatment such as Wonder Woman had in her movie. *smiles* Queen of Swords is sexy without being too revealing for a major movie. Wish she could get her own movie or the series would come back.

I'm very happy to introduce you to Dona Maria Teresa (Tessa) Alvarado, The Queen of Swords! The show was not perfect, but it was so much fun to see a female Zorro in action. I think you would like her.
