“Would you stop following me around already? I already told you, I'm not going anywhere with you, now go away.” You couldn't blame Kyo for being aggravated, you would be aggravated too if someone had been nagging you since the moment you woke up. “Why are you still here? Go away, I'm doing something.”

“But you promised me. You can't go back on your promise.” Pressing your palms together, you pushed out your bottom lip and gave him the most pathetic look you could muster.

“Oh come on, don't even try that. It's not going to work on me okay?” Kyo snorted, trying his best not to give into your whimpering. “Now get out of here already, I'm trying to make some lunch and I can't do it with you hovering over me like that.”

You backed away just enough to allow him to pull a half empty jar of peanut butter from the cabinets. “I could buy you lunch Kyo, and it would be something a whole lot better than a plain peanut butter sandwich.” Grabbing hold of his sleeve, you gently tugged on the loose fabric and began to whimper again. “Please?”

“Man, you're just not going to leave me alone are you?” He plunged his butter knife into the peanut butter and slathered it on two pieces of bread. “Look, I don't need you to buy me lunch, but if it'll shut you up, I'll go with you. Just don't expect me to act all happy about it.”

“Yes, Finally. Thank you Kyo.” You came very close to hugging Kyo, but managed to stop in the very nick of time. Though you had been able to kiss him once before without the curse effecting him, you still tried not to touch him, some of the times anyway. Other times you couldn't help yourself and did things you knew would cause him to shape shift. No one had yet been able to figure out why he didn't shift that one time. Noticing Kyo was giving you a strange look, you snapped yourself out of your thoughts and back into reality. “Well that was close, wasn't it? Anyway, I think once we get there you'll have a good time. At least, I hope you will.”

“Yeah, well I wouldn't count on it. Watching a bunch of people parade down the street wearing stupid costumes doesn't sound like that much fun to me.” He tossed the last little bit of his sandwich into his mouth and spoke with his mouth full. “It just sounds like a waste of time.” After putting the peanut butter back where it belonged, Kyo turned to you with a sour expression and crossed his arms. “We going to go some time today or what?”

“Of course, I was just waiting for you to be done eating.” Not worrying about his curse, you grabbed Kyo's sleeve and pulled him from the house. It was only a short distance to the parade, and perfect walking weather.

“Let go of my hand already, I'm not going to run off.” Shaking your hand free of his, Kyo placed both of his hands deep into his pockets and walked next to you with a scowl on his face.

Worried that this little trip may end horribly, simply due to Kyo's mood, you decided to say something about it before you'd walked too far. “You're in an unusually awful mood today. Did Shigure do something stupid again?”

“No.” To your surprise, he grinned. “I've had this annoying little girl begging me to go to a parade with her all day. It's a really dumb idea. Parades are full of people, and I have this bad habit of turning into a cat when certain kinds of people touch me.” His grin grew crooked and teasing as he continued staring directly in front of him.

“I didn't even think about that. You should have said something. I thought you were just saying no because you were in a bad mood or something.” Now feeling like a total jerk for dragging him along with you, you sighed. “We could do something else, I don't want you to wind up naked somewhere because I wouldn't take no for an answer.”

“It's too late for that now, listen.” The sounds of bells, tambourines, and carnival music could already be heard, and you weren't even at the town center. “Sounds like we'd better hurry huh?” Without waiting for you, Kyo took of towards the sound of the parade. It was a little odd how quickly he'd gone from angry and agitated to happy and excitable, not that you were complaining. “Are you just going to stand there with your mouth open or what?”

“Oh I'm coming alright.” Glad his mood had improved so dramatically, you sprinted towards him, passing him in only seconds.

“Hey, don't go off and leave me now. Get back here!” By the time Kyo finally caught up to you, you were already standing on the crowded sidewalk. The large amount of people quickly turned him skittish. “Oh man, why are so many people here? I though this was supposed to be a small parade. The whole town's here.” Feeling more nervous by the second, Kyo stood as close to you as he could, still making sure not to touch you.

You felt even worse for dragging him out here. You vowed that next time you wanted to spend time with Kyo, you'd just make some cookies and play a board game. At least there was no danger in that. “It was supposed to be small. It wasn't even in the paper, I found out through school. Had I known it was going to be so crowded, I wouldn't have asked you to come. Sorry.”

Kyo blushed. “Don't go apologizing, it's not your fault.”

“I know, but still.” Kyo gave you a look that let you know you really needed to drop the current subject. Blushing from his intense stare, you did your best to only pay attention to the passing floats, balloons and performers. It didn't take long for the bright colours and loud music to capture your attention entirely. After a moment of watching, you realized the entire theme of the parade was animals. The most popular float in the parade was one dedicated to cats. Knowing this made you feel a little better about bringing Kyo out against his will. Suddenly you noticed something else. Kyo was holding your hand, and he wasn't shifting. Actually, the way he was grinning made you think that he might not even notice he was touching you at all. Not wanting to ruin the moment, you smiled happily, keeping your mouth shut, and your eyes on the parade.

The last of the floats passed far too soon, ending the celebration. “That was actually pretty neat, and I didn't get hit or bumped into by anyone.” Kyo was still holding your hand and grinning as the two of you began the short trip home. “I just wish I could have gotten myself some of that cotton candy, it looked so good.”

You laughed at Kyo, who was still drooling over the thought of cotton candy. “I told you I would have gotten you some. But you said no, multiple times.”

“Yeah I know. I just didn't want you pushing and shoving through all those people.” He shivered at the thought.

After allowing a few quiet seconds to go by, you had to ask him the question that had been bugging you since only shortly after the parade started. “Kyo, do you know you're holding my hand? You've been holding it since about five minutes into the parade.”

Kyo stopped in his tracks, his eyes widened and he looked down at his fingers laced with yours. Cursing under his breath, he yanked his hand away from yours and turned a deep shade of red. “I did not know that. Thanks for pointing that out.” He was trying to remain calm, but you knew it was only a matter of seconds before Kyo would transform into a cat. “Man, why'd you have to go and tell me?” Just as predicted, a small plume of smoke engulfed Kyo, fading several seconds later to reveal his cat form. “Thanks a lot, now I'll have to walk home naked.”

You scooped him up and snuggled his soft, furry face against yours. “No you won't, I brought a change of clothes for you in my backpack, just in case something were to happen.” Placing him on your shoulder, you resumed walking.

“Well that's all fine and dandy, but could you let me down?” Even in his cat form, you could tell he was embarrassed. “I'd really rather not be sitting on your shoulder when I turn into a human again. I don't think that would be too pleasant for either of us, especially not for you.”

Obeying his request, you gently placed him on the ground and put your backpack next to him. “Don't be so sure Kyo, you might be surprised with what I'd find pleasant.”

Kyo's tail fluffed as he grabbed the strap of your backpack with his pointy teeth and quickly started dragging it away. “You're sick.”
