What's even worse about this is that I frequent a naughty fanfiction site, and among the warnings I've come across. . .well the worst ever was:

Y'know I came across some Peter x Harry fanfics the other day.
First of all, I was like "EW," and second of all, I was like "Seriously, wtf?" Because in the comments, as a reply, the author of the story was like "Yeah. They're actually in love with each other."
...That's not even possible, lol. For any non-canon pairing. One, because nothing exists for the characters other than what's told in the story. Two, because I bet that if someone asked Stan Lee if Spidey was gay, he'd probably respond promptly with "UM, NO!" and get a restraining order, lol o:

Spidey x Doc Oc is just...wrong. Oh gosh. -wretches- It reminds me of Zim x Dib. Archenemies falling in love? This is why I hate reading & writings romantic fics. Most of them are just ridiculous. Especially when they're slash pairings and one of them gets pregnant. And they're men. Did they not learn human anatomy in freakin' junior high?

I"m against impossible pairings of any kind, slash, whatever. though the most ludicrous pairing I've ever seen is Cheza x kiba from wolf's rain, and the second is Dib + Zim.
I think it is a severe misunderstanding of the characters, I like them the way they are written by the original creator(or by someone who captures everything right, which is rare indeed).

But yes, I agree. I am not offended in any way whatsoever by slash if the characters were depicted as such in the original story! I really despise this random pairing up of characters just because they look at each other, are rivals, or are in the same series.
This reminds me of this community I made based upon a survival film with a cast of all-men. I warned people that I did not want submissions of slash fanfics, and I got 40920984 e-mails and comments of, "Why!? How come!? Why can't we write slash about the characters!?" Well, because there was no slash whatsoever in the original film (and book), and slash wasn't really the point of the story! Still, people never get the picture and think it's appropriate to pair up people if they're considered "hot" or whatever. Eh, to each they're own. It doesn't stop me from getting blinded and traumatized, though.

oh yeah, I really hate it when they think you're a homophobe just because you don't like slash, when that's not the point at all; I have a lesbian friend who despises ZADR because it's unoriginal, and she shares the same thoughts about pairings and such that we've been currently discussing.
and it's not just people who are paired sometimes too, once in a while there'll be bestiality and other such literary vermin lurking within doujinshis and fanfics: once I saw a title on ebay that was for a P M doujin, so I went to take a look, and up pops a pic of San getting her butt licked by a wolf. I like wrong humor, but not THAT kind of wrong! at least make it classy too >.< but like you said, to each their own <_<
it's good to find people who take a wider view of such things, and understand the characters as well. fanfics that are original truly are written by gifted people.

YES! Exactly! When you say, "ARGH I hate that slash pairing!" people just jump on you and go, "OMGFMOMOFMG UR A HOMOPHOBE!!1!LFOMFLK111". No, they're completely missing the point there! And your friend proves the point that just because you don't like random slash doesn't mean you're a homophobe! 
And W.T.F.!!!!! Are you serious!? That's just... ARGH!!! It's stuff like that that makes me wonder why people are so sick! But yes, as you said in the end, there are some good fanfic writers out there. I guess I'll have to wade through the crap in order to get to the good ones! But then, they're worth it!

yes, I've read the chronicles of narnia; damn, pairing siblings is just WRONG and un-classy.
and yeah, sometimes wading through the crap is worth it to read the fics out there that are good. I'm currently working on a PM doujinshi myself with a few friends, though it's been put on hold for a while because of busy schedules. sometimes when I say I'm working on a doujinshi, people will automatically assume that it's one of THOSE doujinshi, which I find embarrassing and frustrating.
but it's not one of those, so I'm content with knowing the truth

Despite all the gaying-up of things I do, I simply can't twist my head around the idea of a desparate lunatic and an angsting superhero, both of whom happen to already have S.O.s, (or, uh, had/b>, in Otto's case) falling in love and having simpering roses-and-cherry-blossoms mansex and getting married and having biologically-impossible children.
Besides, he's 30 freakin' years older than Peter! And they spend the whole film trying to strangle the life out of each other! Ugh, it makes no sense, though I suppose I'm preaching to the choir.
