Description I've been trying not to make stamps, but dA's pushed me over the edge. When I first joined, all the "Site Update" Journals were about bug fixes and maybe a tiny edit to Sta.sh, like new brushes or unlocking the brushes to everyone. Now, they are POINTLESS and just piss everyone off. Major change #1 was turning the submission screen white. Honestly, I found it totally pointless and even made me mad. All of the websites I've been to: white, white, white, white, white, white, black (Creepypasta site), and white. Then dA was green. ORIGINALITY DESTROYED! It's like having a fantastic OC then inserting it into the Sonic Universe and allowing him/her to be able to travel to all different universes, then changing him/her to be, IDK Zelda's long-lost brother or sister. Just taking something cool and destroying it. Now the site updates continue to piss people off and make no sense. Like the two most recent ones, that happened within TWELVE HOURS OF EACH OTHER. (On a side note, "Seriously dA staff? You can't even go 12 hours without trashing your site?") They changed the symbols. You'll never again see =Gamchawizzy or ~Skittysrule. No. They took that away. Now the usernames are huge and have things like stars or hearts to ID deviants, but give JACK SQUAT to non-premium members. Favoritism much? There are sites for children, CHILDREN, who treat non-premium member equivalents with more respect than that. I'm going to use Club Penguin for this. Games = Submitting, Outfits = Symbols. You can submit as a non-premium member. You can play games as a member. You don't get so much as a squiggle, a squiggle that doesn't even take a half second to punch in. On CP, you can get free items like pins and clothes, whatever your pets dig up, mission rewards, and so on and so forth. Also, a lot of people think the icons are childish. Like in kindergarten, the good students got stars, whoever feeds the fish or bunny gets a heart, but even then the other kids would get like a smiley face or something like that. NO, THAT DOES NOT MEAN I WANT A SMILEY FACE NEXT TO MY NAME. The other one saves you one second of typing time. Literally, one second. Instead of : dev username : you can put @ username. How many thousands of dollars did that cost? They said it was for mentioning but is anyone even going to pay attention to that? I admit, it would be an easy way to get some more exposure, but people are probably just going to use it as a shortcut. I don't know, let's just wait and see. That was the only edit. Only one! Now spamming inboxes will be even easier than ever before! And you know what else? I agree with *Eddie-Hedgie when they say that the website is turning into Twitter and Facebook. The policies are now ignored, they're making it more social than art-related, and soon they're probably going to let you #hashtag. Even the YouTube idiots are better than that! dA, I want you to turn to Facebook and Twitter and be like, "I've become so much more aware. I'm becoming less, all I want to do is to be more like me, and be less like you." Turn to them before you turn INto them.

I absolutely and totally agree with you. Since turning the submission page white it's all getting worse with every update. Even the hashtag nightmare has become reality >.<

I'm unable to find a way to delete the updates. If you mean by deleting the messages, then I can do that. However, a lot of other things I am unable to reverse, like go back to the old comments or original names like ~ or * instead of stars or nothing.

The only update I personally liked was non premium members being able to put thumbnails on their profile and the More Like This option, the rest are either meh or just plain trashy and unnecessary. (ESPECIALLY the bigger thumbnails update)

their updates are almost always useless and unless you asskiss to them in the update journals, they will ignore you and only accept the positive feedback like the bias delusional bug-ignorers they are. cause all updates do is annoy us, bring back old glitches and bugs and just be annoying

Thank God! You have just put all my thoughts into words. Speaking as a regular user, I was a wee bit offended to find that we don't get an icon... Childish, maybe, petty, yeah, but seriously, the site is made up mostly of non-paying users, we should get a bit better recognition than "Oh, look! We took away your icon!" <-- My biggest complaint right now. Recognition is next down on the list. And I used to love going to the most recently updated, and just see what catches my eye out of all the stuff that flies by. Now I can't stand it...

-sigh- Why does everything good and unique conform to this crappy socially oriented society? T.T

I'm in full agreement of this. Hopefully dA turns around from the road they're heading down, before they're too far lost. It seems that 90% of sites these days are heading into ruin after being amazing just a year before.

Personally, I blame social media and money for this.

I joined DA in 2007 and I really liked this place. Now it's gone to shit. I hope the good artists I still watch will someday move to another website, so I can leave for good.

I am definitely not going to buy myself any premium membership and many who have them feel the same way, others who don't, won't. Most people I know have slowly drifted away. I feel embarrassed being an artist on this website now. I'm not even going to share any css journals anymore either. They should be making changes to make uploading and updating css journals a possibility not make pointless changes that make the website look like we are all in primary school!

Well said :/ I think they should have some kind of poll asking the normal members (non staff and volunteer, to be specific) what WE want. Not what the staff wants. I mean, yeah if it could be something important, like tightening security to make it harder for hackers, then by all means do it! But removing the ~ or * or $ and replacing it with symbols I'd expect to see in a box of Lucky Charms just looks ridiculous! And not giving the average non-staff member no say in it is totally unfair!

As much as I agree the updates are useless, here are a few things you need to know;

PMs pay the site and help it keep running; of course they're going to give more to PMs in an attempt to get other users to pay for the site, too.

The white submission page has its pros, and its cons. A pro is you know where you are on the site, and it generally makes submitting things easier on the eyes for people with bad eye-site (like me, for example; if I try and write a description on a non-white page, the words blur into one and my eyes ache). A con is it looks ridiculous when compared to the rest of the site.

While deviantART is most known as an art site, it is technically a SOCIAL MEDIA website. The website is made to receive feedback, make friends, and chat. It's not a pure display gallery; they NEED to upgrade the social side of it. That's the point of the site. To communicate, and be social, about a particular media (art in this case).

It is there website, if they want to make it go to the shit, that's completely up to them to do. At least they're attempting, unlike some websites which sit stagnant.

If the updates bother you that much, maybe you should consider moving to another site.

Weasyl, tumblr, sheezyart (currently revamping with major updates), and furaffinity are just the art sites I know how to spell; they're all really good though and if you're so upset at DA they might be more to your tastes.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that a lot of the updates shouldn't be the priority of the site; but complaining about every little change for the sake of not liking change is a little silly and very immature.

As a long-time user I've learnt an important lesson;
DeviantART is a stupid website and it's not going to change its ways. Embrace the dumb and learn to enjoy it for what it is. Have your name as "butt" for 2 straight years, make a joke account for kicks, and don't take this place too seriously.

And I'm sorry for any issues with my grammar, I'm on my iPod and the mobile site is worse then the normal webpage.
