It's a constant, yes, but only in the very special case of euclidian geometry (the geometry of a flat plane). In non-euclidian geometry, Pi tends to be variable. Take the simple example of the equator in the non-euclidian geometry of a sphere; for this circle, Pi is equal to 2.

Space-time, the geometry in which we actually exist, seems to be non-euclidian, just as Einstein thought.
