The beginning...
aka how to start with pixel art
After I got a Daily Deviation for How to make a victorian house? I decided to make a tutorial series about pixel art. As always you have to start from the beginning and this is it, tutorial about how to start with pixel art. As some of you don't have a photoshop then I decided to make this tutorial about pixel art and MS Paint. I hope you enjoy it.
If you think that you didn't understand this tutorial fully then you can always send me a note and I will answer to you.

Pixel Art Tutorial Series is currently the most popular thing on my page. The idea behind this is to take suggestions from the community and try to make a tutorial out of these things, helping out fellow deviants along the way. You can also find my pixel art tutorials in groups like #TutorialsForYou , #TutorialsClub and #PixelCommunity .
Here is a list of tutorials in my Pixel Art Tutorial Series, tutorials which are underlined and bold are already ready tutorials that you can read, other tutorials without the underline are tutorials that will be posted in deviantART in near future.
You can also suggest new pixel art tutorial series by commenting on my profile page, on these tutorials or by sending me a note.
Enjoy!

Yea, It would be nice if you could zoom up more, and even some randomizing tools, to make Texturing easier. I mainly use MS paint, but sometimes I use Gale.

Nice tutorialΒ
Though I have on problem though. I don't have the old ms paint, and I don't know what to do with the new one

vanmall In reply to Ilikeipad1 [2013-10-11 12:58:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the new one isn't that good. If you are interested in making pixel art then I would go with graphicsgale or photoshop.

nice tutorials, im loving following them so far.
one thing though, what is the best way to change the colour of a line?
i tried paint bucketing them but it only covers one pixel from the line as the line is made of separate pixel boxes due to its size.
i ended up re-drawing the lines entirely with the new colour but this is proving quite hard on later tutorials due to the amount of lines.
am i doing this right or is there and easier way im missing?

Depends on what program you are using.

epicragequit In reply to vanmall [2013-10-13 23:52:03 +0000 UTC]
well i was using paint but i switched to graphicsgale because it seemed to be more fitting for pixel art
π: 0 β©: 1
vanmall In reply to epicragequit [2013-10-14 07:43:03 +0000 UTC]
Unfortunately I haven't used graphicsgale much myself, so I don't really know. With older paint you could have just used an eraser trick to color only the parts that you want with one mouse sweep.

how do you calculate the height? is it equal to the first green horizontal line or 3/4 of that line or 1/2? my brain doesn't seem to cooperate in this regard at the moment, so i thought i should probably just ask
π: 0 β©: 1
vanmall In reply to MrTingles [2013-10-05 11:07:31 +0000 UTC]
At this tutorial all sides should be equal, 26 pixels if I'm correct. That gives us the cube effect. Green horizontal lines are just to help you building this cube and therefor quite random. You can completely ignore them if you don't find them useful.
