Description

"Madelyne Pryor, aka The Goblin Queen, aka The Red Queen, aka The Evil Clone of Jean Grey, as if Jean Didn't Have the Potential to be Evil Enough Herself." THAT'S the title I wanted to use, if I had the space.

"Inferno" was one of the earliest X-Men crossover events that I heard of, though I didn't read X-Men at the time.  It was advertised in one of the books I did read, and even in my (somewhat) young age, the eye does get drawn to the scantily dressed redhead standing next to the big demon brute.

Advertising at its finest!

I did start reading X-Men years later, and learned more about the characters' histories along the way.  Should I get the money, I'd plan to pick up some of the more classic storylines, though I don't recall there being a collection for "Inferno".

Though the main draw for this pic is Madelyne herself, the setting was the main objective for me, since I don't draw a lot of backgrounds.  As you can see from the lineart , I was sparing the details on the mountain of skulls. as that would have distracted from the character.  Painted, however, I took more time to detail the skulls, with more in the center, and lessening to bumps of bone the further from the character I got.

The cavern itself got a major touchup, since it didn't seem "hellish" enough in the original.  I set some paper and cardboard on fire one night and photographed the flames.  I merged the better shots in Photoshop, then adjusted the hues to a more ghostly green, then painted in some more flames after that.

Really good rendition here; I'm not sure if you were going for it or not, but good job especially with the "Louise Simonson hair" here--the kind of hair Madelyne had in her first several issues, which was modeled after the hair of Marvel editor/writer Louise Jones-Simonson (who wrote most of the X-Factor issues in the Eighties, including the Inferno ones).

It was unintentional.  Happy accidents do happen!

Why does no one remember the superheroine Identity with healing factors that she had when Loki was screwing around with everyone?  That never comes up aymore.  Instead we get Woman and her baby get abandoned by callous husband for High school sweetheart.  WOman tears her clothes off and tries to sacrifice baby, because she's been jilted.  Given her programming, and that Schizo Jean left a piece of her consciousness in Madelyne, that's not too surprising.

Maybe Loki screwed her over by making everyone else forget that?

My own X-Men history is still a bit spotty, admittedly.  From what I read, those were powers given and later taken back by Loki, but I don't know if the memory of those powers were taken as well.

It seems that the Red/Goblin Queen persona has pretty much taken over Madelyne's personality, so she's pretty much in the Villain camp for the foreseeable future.
