Cobalt sat upon the chilled park bench, one claw clenched around a rolled piece of paper. His name was emblazoned upon the binding that guarded the contents-- it was the only sign that signified that it was for him. It was given to him by Vales, a childhood crush who was currently in a relationship. His heart bled from the lost opportunity, his chest tightened with jealousy of the gro she had chosen, but in the end he had forced himself to accept it... the other gro made her happy, right? With this knowledge, Cobalt couldn't hep but feel confused. Instead of her cheery self, Vales seemed somber when she had granted him the note. It was enough to throw Cobalt off and cause him to falter, failing to ask what was wrong. Without much time the two parted, leaving him caught in a fit of clouded confusion and unbearable curiosity. What happened?

Cobalt wanted to immediately read the note, but he decided it was best to escape the prying eyes of the Nook. As such, he made his way into town, kicking up mucked up snow until he reached the empty park that he now resided within.

Cobalt stared at the writing for a long period of time trying to understand why Vales seemed so upset... had she broken up with the other guy? The note gave him a bad feeling; something about the situation screamed not to open the letter-- to never read the contents-- but his ever curious nature kicked in. Unable to to last any longer, he quickly slipped off the twine and unfurled the note to reveal the contents.

"To my good friend, Cobalt,"

The words looked rattled, almost as if Vales was choking on tears when she had written the note.

"Do you ever wish we could just go back to simpler times? You know, back to when we were wynglings and everything seemed perfect? I sure do..."

Cobalt continued to read the note, each line falling heavier and heavier upon his watering eyes. His gaze zipped from one sentence to the next, gaining momentum with each building statement written. His chest tightened and his fins fell limp as she closed in on the end of the letter.

"Thank you for everything, I will cherish our memories, always.

- Vales"

Cobalt stared blankly at Vales' name. So many emotions toiled in the back of his mind, each snapping and fighting to emerge victorious. They continued to fester as he sat there in stunned silence, his mind blank, his chest aching. Large fluffy flakes whispered upon Wynsiph on a rogue wind. The bite of winter caused him to momentarily shudder before his magic glands sparked with a red glow. Waves of intense grief washed over his soul causing his skin to burn and his insides to melt.

Vales was gone.
