There's a good reason for this 'escalation' that'll be explained in the story proper, but aside from that I also thought it was important to make him a more credible threat overall.
Β Yeah, he's done a lot of big, bad things but how frightened are you going to be of a so-called "genius" who's regularly schooled by a bunch of children?

He's got his own personality, motivations and issues much different from Hacker's. That said - no, he's certainly not evil - but he isn't exactly 'popular', either. You'll see
