What do you think of the new cyberchase shorts btw? I know the story is nonsense, but the art is seriously adorable O_o I just gush through every episode of it!

So...accidental magic doesn't exist as a concept in her world? Or is she too old and too far into schooling for it? Either way, that seems a little suspect to me. Not necessarily in the whole "the government is evil!" kind of way but more in the "there seems to be some important things they've forgotten" way.
And more uh-oh factor; apparently despite me calling the information in that file forgotten, it seems that the knowledge has only stopped being widespread rather than long to time entirely.

While I pretty much have to write my own "rules" for how magic stuff 'works' in the CS universe (it's not delved into on the show) I also wanted to make it clear that something suspect IS going on. So yeah, according to their 'rules' and understanding "magic" is supposed to be something you have to make happen; sure you could accidentally spill a potion or something but just like anything else that goes off accidentally it's still only gonna do what it was already designed to do in the first place.
In other words saying that you 'accidentally' teleported yourself out of an explosion is like saying you 'accidentally' gathered ingredients, preheated the oven, mixed up and made a strawberry shortcake and then topped it with whipped cream, diced strawberries and rainbow sprinkles; it's just too intricate and specific a process to be ABLE to happen by accident.
...or at least it's supposed to be...

Ah; then I feel less suspicious. I was initially under the impression that magic was a bit like a gun: not supposed to go off by accident but can but that doesn't seem to be the case...or at least it's not supposed to be. I'm not sure if it's part of your plot but it would be interesting if part of the reason Slider, Shari and Creech were drawn to the Squad had just as much to do with their own potential for "impossible" skills as it had to do with "right place, right time, right circumstances". There are no accidents after all; we just happen to be characters in a story that only the author knows the whole of.

Is that a 'fate' plug? Not a buyer, personally - but you do you
But speaking AS an author...actually I just realized I can't really go into it without spoiling, but let's just say you have raised an interesting point about the B-Team.

It's less fate and more "your choices matter but there's also someone ultimately in control; it's just that someone operates outside of your understanding". And neat, even if it counts as a spoiler.
