Well, I've finally started working on my comic/graphic novel again & I figured it was time for another tutorial, so I decided to do a step-by-step tutorial explaining how I design/layout a comic page.

Let's assume that we've already read the script, the first thing you want to do is get a basic idea or "feel" for the story & how the scene is going to go down on the page. In the first image I did what's called a "thumbnail" or a really rough idea of what you want the final product to look like.

Next, I drew in the Panel Frames with a ruler on some blue lined comic paper (which you can get at any good art supply store, or you can order them from comic shops) & did some rough pencils of what I did of the thumbnails.

On the third image, I tightened up some of the pencil lines using a 4H pencil (I use 4H lead because the lead draws lighter lines & is easier to erase).

Next, I went over the regular pencil lines with blue lead art/drawing pencil (usually used for drafting or graphic art) & added in the all details that I want in the finished product.

Finally on the last image is the Inks. You'll noticed that I decided to change a few things at the last minute. I added a few extra details & decided not to include the hand that was in the lower right hand corner of the last panel because I wasn't happy with how the hand turned out, & it wasn't really necessary for the page.
