You rock for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us. I have UF and Janet Parke's online course but I would never be able to figure out any of this on my own. I just found all your tutorials and now I am going to give up sleeping so I have time to learn.

Velvet--Glove In reply to Lupsiberg [2014-04-30 11:40:30 +0000 UTC]

I'm afraid this won't teach you actual masking, Karin, but there are other tutorials for that. See the new Fractopaedia of Masking journal entry on Ultra-Fractal-Redux for information on learning the fundamental principles and procedures. Once you do have an idea of how masking works, though, then this tutorial will take you a little way beyond the basics and show you how to be a little more inventive with your masking.

Good luck and I hope this eventually proves useful to you!

Ramblingsheep [2014-04-29 21:32:47 +0000 UTC]

I am a newcomer to Ultra Fractal and I found Chris' earlier tutorials very helpful.
I have started working my way through Janet Parke's Course and I really like the structured approach that Janet has used and appreciate the help that she provides.
So Creative Masking may be a bit advanced for me at the moment but I find it is still worth spending time to read this more advanced material as it gives me an idea as to what I might eventually be able to achieve.
I am very grateful for all the help that is available for users of Ultra Fractal which in my mind, quite apart from its functionality,Β makes it such a good choice for beginners such as myself.
As a photographer I have used Photoshop for many years so masking is not new to me but this tutorial is really helpful.
Thanks a lot Chris for sharing you knowledge.

Collecting all the learning resources together is a great idea. Β When I first started looking I found it really quite difficult sort out the best material for beginners.

Thanks too to Anna.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences, Peter. I hope this tutorial will eventually prove useful to you, though if you are intending to do Janet's masking course as well (as I did) you will find she covers the subject of masking and it's many applications much more thoroughly than I do.

Good luck with your learning, you are in the hands of an excellent teacher with Janet.
