Description
Misconstrue - Part 1The age of space exploration continues, and Earthβs technology advances. It is the year 3023 and the first human space ship, on a course to find life, has reached a destination. A new milestone for humans, euphoria sweeps the world.
Before contact is made, the exploration fleet malfunctions, explodes and annihilates the fleet right in front of this alien world, which is mistaken as an attack on them. The humans unable to apologize to the aliens about the mistake made, a galactic war begins, and years pass of barbaric killing and battles. Not anticipating the alienβs power of witchcraft, there seems little hope for Earth. Humans flee from the Earth for safety from the unknown and hazardous future. Not a moment too soon, these water dwelling creatures summon forces from the universe to obliterate the Earth in cataclysm, yet only 500 million civilians manage to escape.

The first thing I thought was "is this Greg Martin"?!
But then I realized that it didn't have his name plastered obsessivley all over it. Actually, this is pretty wicked! I like!

shit, there's nothing to critique, lol... I'd like to see some stars in the black, though.... even though space is mostly, well, empty space, throw in the random star here or there, esp in the lower right corner

Amazing work. Makes mine look like the drawings of 2 year olds. A few comments:
a) erm, where are the stars? I only see them when there is a light source in the picture, suggesting its an image plane, or maybe those are just particle effects. In the true universe, where ever one looks there are stars. Always. Unless of course the picture has a long exposure, in which case the ambient light would cover them up. But in your scene, I feel strongly there should be star visible on the darker side of the planet, and below the moon. Specifically, the lower right area.
b)Why is the sun blue? If I recall correctly, a blue star is too hot to sustain life, let alone liquid water, since the habital zone for such a system would be much further out, and hence show greater variation in seasons. And unless the planet has a strong magnetic field, the radiation in the form of high energy electrons would penertrate the atmoshphere, creating high level radiation, which could destroy the primative single celled orgnisms required for life as we know it. And the UV would be overpowering, and destroy the required molecues before they can form life forms (forgot what they are, but strong UV rays, IIRC, can destroy).
c) that comet heading into the moon from the top right has its tails point "towards" the sun. It should be the other way around, as with all the commets. And assume its moving towards the moon, then at least its tail be curved towards the moon due to its gravity, like the 2 comet's tails in the lower left.
d) While the impact effect looks stunning on the moon, its looks weird on the planet, as it has an atmosphere, and those clear, distinct jagged lines look wrong, IMHO.
e) Oceans will reflect more light than the lands, so perhaps you could create a specularity map so that oceans do reflect more light
But of course, your an artist, and hence have the artistic license in alll you do, which I shall not challenge. And I am taken away by that render, I dearly wish I can produce pictures like that.
Your are licensed to be creative.
regards
Steve

Amazing! The details, the depth, the lighting, just awesome. Not too dark and not too bright. Very interesting story, goes very well with the picture. I'm looking forward to see the sequels!
Damn nice job!
