Description
I almost feel bad for calling this a tutorial. That's more or less how I do my cartoony fire (this isn't meant to look realistic gaiz). For better examples (as I rushed this one quite a bit) see [link] (uhuhuh self promotion).BECAUSE IT SEEMS I LIKE TO BLUR A LOT. I generally sharpen my pictures right after I resize them. Maybe you should blur a bit less if you don't do that.
And stuff. Done just because ~MarikLover666 asked nicely

How could I do this using traditional methods? It seems really useful for digital, but I prefer traditional. Β That and I don't have access to any digital art stuff for awhile.

You'll have to find another tutorial or experiment on your own unfortunately. I'm not much of a traditional artist myself, at least not for the coloring part, and it does depend on what media you use, not all traditional ways of coloring work the same way.

I think it's great you made a tutorial. This kind of fire looks decent for any number of pictures and it was simple for you to make so A+ in my book. I think I might try this for my future fire effects! =3

Hey... What do you set the blur to? How many pixels? Mine doesn't seem as glowy as yours.. :0

It depend on the size of your picture. Like for my previous picture, the version I posted is 25% of the original. I blurred at 50 pixels for the lower layer and 25 everywhere else.

OOoooohhh.... Well I was just testing on a 500 by 500 pixel canvas.. Not very big at all ^^
Well here's how my fire came out: [link]
If only I could draw a decently shaped fire. :\

Fact: I do not know how to draw flames either.
I think it's pretty good. I'd fade the ligther parts near the tips though, as fire generally gets darker when you go farther from the source (if that made any sense lol)

But you can fool others into thinking you can~ I can't.
Oh, it's true! See? I know nothing about fire! XD;

That's only because I've never drawn any "real" fires. I can get away with weirdo shapes as it's hair XD
