So I was digging through my art and found this little bit of nonsense right here. I was actually drawing it as a follow up to Conrad's little walk through the ages but then never finished it.Then I found it and slapped some colors on it to pretend it was finished so I wouldn't feel obligated to fully color it anymore and called it a day (just kidding I'm still comicking haha).
Just thought I'd share!! Sorry it's so old and crappy I kind of really hate parts but I'm okay with parts but I remember putting effort into it and I didn't want it to COMPLETELY rot on my harddrive.
Forever.

This tells a bit of a story in it's own, doesn't it? You see toddler Hanna, Happy-Preteen-Hanna, then something happens, and it kicks him, and then he recovers a bit... to become the Hanna we know, love, and see in the comic today. I'm dyeing to hear his backstory - but I guess I'll have to wait for it to end up in the comic! ^^

That was.... both expected and unexpected at the same time.
I went tottaly WOAH but we all knew something had to be....wrong with a guy who has a scar THAT big on his torso.
The slight change of his curls- from soft to all edgy- is a wery very nice touch too.

what kind of big depressing past would make you so pissed?
to be honest, the most i can see happening is like, the supernatural stuff - failing to get into it. Like "WHAT THE FUCK" and add that to being a teenager and he's probably just jumped in the deep end or something. Then he gets used to it, and optimism!Hanna breaks through all "LOL BEEN THROUGH WORSE, GUYS." Plus, he has that scar on his chest, so yeah.
I don't think it's gonna be all "Trauma trauma death and shit bawww", it's Hanna.
If he does, anyway, I won't be too upset, so long as the angst turns out to be well-founded (?) angst and not just "MY DOG DIED".

But see that's what would drive me crazy, you know? If he was so happy all the time but then had like the worst childhood ever.
But actually, I've been thinking about this picture, and how he recovers so quickly and I have a theory. I don't think he was just angsty or troubled. I think he was POSSESSED.
Think about it, it makes sense. Like he acts so childish as an adult because he wasn't like, in his body during that whole part of his childhood.
Plus, that could be why he decided to be a paranormal investigator.

Actually, Hanna being possessed for (or what i believe are) his teenage years would drive me crazy lol! XD I kind of think that today's Hanna is still suffering inside a little. I almost think his constant vigor is kept up to make no one worry too much about him, or something similar to that. He couldn't have spent his free time very happily, I mean he didn't look very happy when he first opened the door when {...} first knocked.
I just can't shake off how dodgy he is with everything, either. I mean, he gets weirder when {...} tries to question about it, and quickly came up with an excuse when Conrad brought up the fact that he smells dead. I also find it weird that Lee's shost deliberately tried to get at Hanna, even while {...} shielded him. Plus, it turned into a skelletony... thing. And Zombie walked away pretty much unscathed after he was possessed (then again he's already dead).
I'm not saying your theory is wrong, but I'm just a little skeptical about it. Perhaps you're on the right track, though.
Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure Doc. Worth was the guy to help Hanna break out of the trauma.

Nah, but there's something that really irks me about cheerful happy characters being all DARK UGH ANGST on the inside. Because then it's like, this whole personality, this character you've grown attached to, is all just a facade.

Yeah, he said that really fast like it was meant to have a different meaning to it, and plus he was looking down when he said it. He's obviously not giving the full story.
Well I'm not really saying it's a facade. I think he really is really hyper and energetic and childish, especially around friends. But I also think he has a side to him that is kind of sad and lonely, but not in an angsty way. I don't know how to explain it exactly right what I mean XD But I also think the story wouldn't go anywhere far if Hanna himself didn't have an interesting tale to tell, as well. I mean, I know Gallahad is the narrator, and the story is interesting with whatever happened to him, but it's not called Hanna is Not a Boy's Name either. You know?
I was thinking maybe he was like... Resurrected, or what you suggested, or maybe he somehow did something and ended up in the land of ghosts or some weird thing like that, and i don't think that's right at all either haha! All we know is that it has something to do with ghosts...
I also wonder if that thing where Hanna could see where the body was after it passed through him was just something special to his abilities, or if anyone could see stuff like that.

He can have an interesting past without having repressed depression and anxiety.
I think it's fair to say he may have BEEN lonely before Otto came around, but those days are clearly over and business is suddenly booming. (I dunno why, but I get the feeling Hanna wasn't so popular before Ernest showed up.)
I dunno. People are writing him in asylums and stuff, but whatever happened, I can't imagine him being insane or suicidal or anything like that. It just doesn't fit. At all.

Oh, neither can I, trust me. I just think something super paranormal happened and he became insecure and Doc. Worth found him and made him better. But an asylum??? Yeah, don't think so haha XD
Maybe not depression and anxiety, but maybe regret or something. Or maybe he feels he needs to accomplish something because of what happened and that's why he's a paranormal investigator.

I might think about paying you money if you're right. It's kind of far-fetched, but knowing the story thus far, it's a good theory. I also would like to add that the Doc told Hanna to stay away from ghosts. There must be a reason other than just "Ghosts are dead >:U". Doc knows he's a paranormal investigator, so he's going to be involved in such things. Why didn't he warn him about vampires?
Once again, good theory, but I'll be amazed if you're actually right.

It doesn't look like he had the worst childhood ever, though. It looks more like he had a pretty good, happy childhood, and then had crappy teenage years. Everybody has crappy teenage years. He just happened to probably see more than people usually do; he probably got attacked by a ghost like Doc Worth mentioned, "No more ghosts". And it made him go "ghdjdghf". Orrr idk.

Well, he IS an adult, I was just saying if he missed out on adolescence it would make sense for him to be sort of silly and immature. Which he frequently is.
