I'm a medical student too, so when I began to read the whole blood system introduction I was like "W-h-a-t? How does he know all that? What if I wasn't studying medicine? Would I be supposed to know that much anatomy as an artist?" But then, of course, I read your note on the upper right corner and I relaxed
That made me curious (and I really feel like bombarding you with questions). How do you manage to do both? Because it's really obvious you have some amazing artistic skills and a very polished personal style, so I'm guessing you do spend a considerable amount of time on your art. Do you know any other medical students interested in digital art? Why did you choose medicine over art? (There I made an assumption, feel free to correct me).
And yes, your tutorial is extremely helpful.

The answer to your first question: time management skills - I honored all my first year classes and got a kickass step 1 score because I knew when to draw and when not to draw. But even more importantly, I knew how to study - I knew the way that allowed me best make use of my scarce free time. I argue that if you were to graph the [increase in exam grade] per [amount of time spent studying], the graph would look like the hemoglobin oxygen dissociation curve. That is - it would slowly start increasing in the beginning, reach maximal slope in the middle, and slowly decrease toward the high end until it reached a plateau. What that means is that past a certain point, additional studying becomes rather inefficient. If I had to give you definitive advice, I'd say group-study as much as possible, and once you know 60-70% of the material, do practice questions to learn the rest - at least, that's what worked for me. Also, know your professors. During a test, I could kind of tell which questions were written by which professor, so I knew when a seemingly easy question had a difficult answer or when a seemingly difficult question had an easy one.
To answer your second question; No. I'm the only person I know who does digital art, and I'm lonely...
And to answer your third question; I myself never chose between medicine and art, because I was brainwashed by my parents into thinking that medicine was the only viable career choice for me if I didn't want to starve when I grew up. I'd say I'm rather good at it, but now it is the only thing I can do. Also, I was never that confident in my art until I was already in medical school - before, in college and high school, I just doodled and didn't care much for purposeful self-improvement. Back then, I didn't have the 900+ pages worth of comics posted on this website - I drew those all during medical school.
I wish there was a way I could have a dual profession - doctor/comic book author, but I don't think they have those...
Sorry for the long answer...

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to answer but I've been very busy with final exams (and they're not over yet). I guess I lack some of those time-organizing skills after all
I just wanted to thank you for taking time to write such a long and detailed answer to my questions. I have to admit your hemoglobin oxygen dissociation curve metaphor made my day (You are creative, indeed).
So I guess I'm not the only one here whose parents definitely had a huge influence on their final deception to study what they're studying. But I'm also guessing if you didn't like it, at least a little bit, you'd quit already.
And I highly doubt medicine is the only thing your'e good at, like you said. You just have to visit your DA profile to see that...
Anyway. Thanks again and have a good summer!

Hmm... Good idea!
But I use a tablet, so why don't I do a generic tutorial about how to draw bullet wounds that can be used with both traditional/digital media?
Oh and sorry for late reply
