It doesnt work with me ...
I put the Darker colour, but I go to blur and it vlurs the whole thing ... then I tried selecting the darker colour with the magic wand, and it kinda blurs, but the edges of the stroke are still sharp ....

I do something close to this, I go over the lines of my scan, then clone the layer and use the cloned layer as shading with Gaussian blur, but then it looks like the character is standing up against a wall, perhaps I'll try this on future projects. A useful tutorial.

It's simple, but very effective. And the result looks nice too. I'm trying to improve my shading style and am trying to get some ideas on how to do so, and this actually helps me quite abit. Thanks, and nice work!

When I do gausian blur, it puts this weird white glow around what I blurred. Could be specific on how to blur it correctly? Other than that, the tutorial is great!

Vetrina-271 In reply to charsane [2008-09-23 01:54:19 +0000 UTC]

hmm that's odd... it doesn't do that to me
Are you doing something different?

And thanks!

I magic wand select the section, say her arm, and do the gausion blur, but when I'm done, on the inside outline of her arm, I get this really weird white line. What exactly do you do?

And you're welcome! ^.#

Vetrina-271 In reply to charsane [2008-09-25 03:20:29 +0000 UTC]

Well what I do is put the separate shading (darkening, lightening, highlights) on separate layers (none of which contain the picture that you're trying to shade) and when I'm done shading with one layer I gausion blur it to what I want it to be.

Hope that helps

Vetrina-271 In reply to DarkfireAlchemist [2008-07-30 22:31:15 +0000 UTC]

Try shading on a new layer and blurring the layer when your done with it. That's what I do.
Sorry if I wasn't clear =/
